Turbo setup 317's VS LS3's

hi

i need your help please to know which heads will match my setup

317's + 102/102 FAST
317's + stock LS6 intake & TB
LS3's + 102/102 FAST
LS's + stock LS3 intake &TB

its to my 2001 camaro T-56 , 408ci, S480 T4 turbo, 238/236 custom cam

i use that car as Street car racing not for drag race so i hope to have more spooling and have nice power

thanks

dudeman May 5, 2013 01:30 AM

that cam will work better with the 317 heads.

eminem1833 May 6, 2013 02:12 PM

other opinions?
which of them will gain more power? I hope to have nice street race 60+mph

dimetweaker May 6, 2013 02:20 PM

sell the fast, use a stock ls3 intake with the ls3 heads, use the money from the fast for the CUSTOM CAM to match your setup? I cant see any benefit to a fast intake on a turbo, seems like you would net more with the right cam.

eminem1833 May 6, 2013 04:52 PM

i have these Fast 102/102 already but i am scared about the turbo spooling, I will run 11-14psi on that 408ci with 9.4cr

that cam was customized with my old setup it was 402ci with 243 heads, LS6 intake from tick preformance, so i will let them do another cam soon to my new setup

now do I have remove that LS3 heads with fast 102/102 and fix 317's and LS6 intake?

dimetweaker May 6, 2013 10:26 PM

worried about the turbo spooling? you mean hard to get it to spool with the fast, or blowing up the fast with boost? Im very new to turbos, I dont know how much boost you can put to a fast intake, and I dont know how to spec out a turbo combo, however, if I had your parts, id take all the highest flowing equipment, put it on, and have a cam spec'd. assuming they are all unported heads, that would be the LS3 heads, the fast intake and TB

T4 is gonna choke it

eminem1833 May 7, 2013 07:04 AM

my turbo specs is T4 S480 with 80mm cold side, 92mm hot side with 1.1 A/R

is it small to choke?? i will use it as DD car and the street races with my T-56 tranny and i want to gain around 750+rwtq @ 13psi

soo which of these will match my setup?

turbocamaro125 May 7, 2013 07:13 AM

I had a buddy with a ls1 383 with ls6 intake and 317's with a s480 with 1.32 96mm wheel and a brute speed blower cam 232/240 and m6 with 3.25 gear....in 4th gear @2100rpm it would make 1psi and full spool @ 2800 15psi. Your setup will spool faster then that with the smaller hotside and bigger cube.

If you already have the turbo, roll with it. You could always swap on a t6, but at 750 hp I think you will be fine. Much over that and the t6 would be a good option. The nice part is they offer a 1.10 t6 for the 92mm turbine. Have you thought about maybe 317s with an another intake like the edelbrock or the hi-ram? 317s have been over 1000 hp in stock form. I think they would be fine and can be had pretty cheap.

that turbo is gonna choke this big motor. If you have it roll with it, but it will be out of steam fast. I would do the 317s and ProFlo.

eminem1833 May 19, 2013 06:01 PM

so you prefer to swap my LS3 heads and 102/102 Fast

to 317's and ls6 intake?

coolmanvette75 May 19, 2013 10:53 PM

I'll be running PRC LS3 heads and a ported ls3 intake on my 370 with a 7875...

eminem1833 May 20, 2013 02:13 PM

nice
sooo do i need to keep that LS3 heads with Fast or swapped??

dans94z28 May 20, 2013 05:21 PM

From what I was told and read while looking into LSA heads, cams are designed on head flow characteristic and ls3 (square port) heads require a different cam profile completely.

Blackpanther99 May 20, 2013 06:05 PM

I would keep the LS3s.

eminem1833 May 28, 2013 03:06 PM

the vote results is 7 for 317 heads + stock LS6 and others 12 accept for LS3 heads
so i will keep the LS3 heads but which intake and throttle do you prefer guys?
I have now already 46mm precision wastegate, do i have to swap it to 66mm?
thaanks aloot guys

Keep in mind that people are going to vote for their own combo as well.

Do what makes sense. they will all fit the power levels you're looking for anyways...

i have a set of ported 317's on a 390ci with bigger valves lookin to make 1000rwhp... if your not spending $3k+ on heads and your not matching your setup based on flow numbers....Especially under 1000hp, any of them will work.. I personally would run the cheapest route and put the money else where. LS6 intake+317's. Mighty Mouse ran 8's on a stock intake/TB...

I got my heads from AES, they ported/polished them, then flowed them, then made a custom cam for my setup. I dont think the gains from a FAST+LS3 over the ls6+317's will be substantial. Put the money into the fuel system. the 44mm wastegate should be plenty.

X2!!! I would roll with what you can save the most amount of money on and put it into the fuel system.
