more boost but didn't get the results, e85... I'm running a lower boost e85 turbo set up on a LQ9 with a small cam. Last time at the track running 5.5 psi and 20* the truck trapped 110 mph and iats got up to 175F. This time with 8psi and the timing ramping down to 16* with higher iats at 200+ at the end of the run it only picked up 2mph. I'm wondering if my tune is to conservative for e85 and is why the truck didn't seem pick up power like it should have ? I'm not running an intercooler hence the higher intake temps. The truck with 8 psi picked up 6mph in the 1/8th over running 5.5psi but only gained 2mph at the 1/4. I'm sure its because I had the timing retard as the iats came up. Would 20* timing have been fine the whole run ? I know there are allot of variables to consider but I would like to see what you guys have to say. |
do you have logs of the run? if so, is there any knock? if so, how much is being taken out and what is the alcohol concentration of this tank of e85? |
Timing did alot in reducing mph i run 19degs at 21psi on e85 and trap 143 on a stock 5.3 |

I'm guessing, the turbo is probably done...as in, no more mass flow. |
The turbo is an ebay GT45, it shouldn't be close yet to to being done and the truck with me in it was 4890lbs after the last run. I logged all the runs and there was no knock retard anywhere, I'm also using the knock sensor tables from a 5.3l truck in the tune so they are a little less sensitive. The e85 measured 90% alcohol but typically its around 84 to 85%. Last year at 5.5psi it was trapping 107 with the timing at 16* and it went 110 with it held at 20* so it seems timing makes a big difference. I'm not using an intercooler yet so I don't know what timing it can handle ? |
Yout timing sounds super conservative on E85. I ran 20* @ 10psi on 93 octane with water inj no IC 190* inlet temp. |
