Upgrades for 8's

Ok guys I need some help on my quest to get my 73 camaro into the 8's it's previous best was a 9.68 @137 the car weighs 3450 my current combo is;

Stock 6.0
Ls6 cam
S475 83 1.10ar t6
Th400 jegs xhd 3500 stall
3.42 gears

Now I've already talked to tick and a custom cam will deff be ordered. I've already ordered some forged rods pistons will be ordered soon and I plan on keeping my stock crank.
But my question is the turbo I've gotten mixed answers on weather or not I should upgrade its not the lightest car at almost 3500lbs the car just feels a little slow on the top end it could be the converter idk. Also a friend of mine has a pair of l92 heads I can get for a deal should I go ahead and purchase them or run my 317's I keep hearing tales of thin decks. I need some answer on theses things before I order my cam and piston and would like to hear your comments.

Cam and maybe bigger turbine. Check out stock48's post about his nova. It's a t4 turbo and went well into the 8s Good luck!
Love that body style!

I've seen stock48 and idk how the hell that car goes that fast! It's nuts

that turbo is only good to 800hp or so on the turbine side, its killing this car. upgrade to a billet S476 or 480 with the 96mm 1.32 rear on it and you would probably go 8's without touching the cam, motor, or converter. More cam and just the turbo would be plenty IMO to get what you are looking for

Keep the 317 heads

He really knows what he is doing. Specially being able to do it up in Bakersfield. The air sucks up there. He is a cool guy also. Has helped me figure out a few things with mine and is a buddy of a close friend of mine. His truck is nuts also

3450 race weight? Or thats just the car?
How much boost were you runnning previously on the s475?
What are you reving it to?
Did you figure your converter slip?
60' times?

I'd bet that converter sucks massive wang on the top end. Unless your reving the motor pretty high.

Yes 3450 race weight
The 9.68 pass was with 11lbs on the brake and 16lbs on the release
Shifting at 6k going thru traps right at about 6k as well
1.34 60ft

Assuming a 28" tire and that you crossed the traps at exactly 6k thats right about 7% which isn't bad at all. Suprised a cheapo 10" converter would even work that well. SUre it's not just blowing thru the converter and sitting at 6k the whole run? Any data logs?

I'd give dusty a call at PTC. They basically explained to me that the 10" converters wouldn't couple well at 6k. And they suggested a 9.5" custom stalled converter. Mine seems to work great right around 5% up top. Runs about $950. I'd start there.

Only 16lbs? Can you not turn it up anymore? I'd crank up the boost personally.

Good luck!

Yep 275 60 dr. Yes I could probably turn it up but I'm gunna go ahead and throw some rods and pistons in before I stick it to it I plan on keeping this motor for awhile.
