Default Stock bottom end LQ4. What rings are recommended?

building a Procharged lq4 non intercooled on E85. not looking to go crazy with it kind just looking to put an engine together to stay out on the track next year.

a friend of mine told me that "you must run a steel top ring with a boost application"

is this true? or do you thing i can get away with a Moly top ring?

only running 8-10lbs of boost looking for 500rwhp on the stock bottom end.
looking for Gap recommendations aswell. (was planning on 1st ring .022 and 2nd ring .026)
Drag Car BTW.

Thanks
Anthony

For that little boost I'd say you can just run a moly ring on top. Hell denmah on here ran 20 psi on stock rings with stock gaps.

if your running stock pistons I don't think you can do any better than stock rings . the stock gm stuff is very strong and if you break it it will be the tune that broke it.i set my gaps at .026 top and 2nd. with e85 running cooler and low boost you can most likely tighten them up a bit but we will see if any of the experts chime in on how tight.8-10 lbs can make more power. than you want with a good tune.

The factory GM ring is better quality than most aftermarket replacements. I have ran my GM rings up to 26 psi on the nova and the engine still leaks down below 2%.

I think a moly top would be perfectly acceptable. I like using Hastings rings for stock replacements. I used them on my own engine and they are definitely quality pieces. I used a set on a buddy's 4.8L that made 650whp, and they cost $50!

Determine what rings you need. It looks as though the older gen III engines used a 1.5/1.5/3.0mm ring pack and newer gen IV engines used a 1.2/1.5/2.5mm ring pack.
