sway bar, down pipe, and end links....

many of you have seen my twin turbo build and its getting pretty close to being finished. A buddy and i were putting on the front suspension last night and noticed that my sway bar is hitting my passenger down pipe. The pipe runs over the top of the sway bar and barely hits it when the sway bar is rotated up to put on the end links. it believe it clears the sway bar if i rotate it down some. Do you guys see any problems with running a little bit shorter end link? I could run without a sway bar, but its a street car.. i dont wanna lose a ton of driveability. I guess we didnt have the sway bar mounted all the way up when we fabbed the down pipes.. :-/

I drove around for years with no front sway bar. Unless you plan on taking corners at double the posted limit I don't think it is too much of an issue. I hardly even noticed a difference until the I pushed the pedal down and the front lifted a tad higher than normal but thats a good thing for weight transfer.

what about your normal off/on ramps and changing lanes at like 70mph??

necrocannibal 12-31-2013 02:56 PM

You can tell the front end is a little "looser" I guess but like I said I didn't notice that big of a difference really. I took it off one day and drove to the track and then never putit back on after seeing how it drove without it.

ok. ill keep that option on the table. u dont happen to have a set of end links laying around do ya? i need to know this distance...

I've had to do an evasive maneuver before in my big ass crown vic with no front sway bar. I was doing about 60mph. I could tell I didn't have a front sway bar on, but I'm no Ayrton Senna and I was able to avoid the problem. You'll be fine. And it'll be faster at the track.

allout06 12-31-2013 03:40 PM

ok. like i said. ill keep it in mind. im going to try to make it work with sway bars first

necrocannibal 12-31-2013 03:53 PM

Sorry I don't have any to measure for you.

allout06 12-31-2013 04:22 PM

i do have a MWC Anti-roll bar in the rear along with strange double adjustable coil overs up front and single adjustable on the rear.

trans2000am 12-31-2013 05:40 PM

took mine off this year never could tell the difference and saved some weight that sway bar is heavy as shit, i vote just get rid of it will also allow car to transfer weight better

Tally TransAm 12-31-2013 06:47 PM

yes you can run shorter links, but removing it is no big deal at all

i havent had mine for 10+ years, probably 60-70k miles, and never once thought about putting it back on. i routinely take my car on relatively high speed cruises through back roads to the coast and you can tell its not there, but you adjust your driving accordingly

allout06 12-31-2013 06:59 PM

ok kool. thanks guys. im assuming its a more noticeable difference for the guys with stock suspension vs guys with all after market suspension ya?

SPRAYED 01 12-31-2013 07:13 PM

If you can get it to go on with just using shorter end links do it. I drive mine a lot on the street and like having it in. You do so much work on you're car if its possible why short change your self?

allout06 12-31-2013 08:01 PM

im going to try. but if its going to require me modding my down pipe, which is a shit ton of work. ill just pull it off and run without it.

Boo"SS"t 12-31-2013 08:52 PM

Can't you just make a couple of spacers for the mounts?

Cam72aro 12-31-2013 09:43 PM

I have coilovers with a stiff front spring and can take corners really fast. I don't notice a difference without it.

transam69230 01-01-2014 01:53 AM

Really? We already had this conversation, get rid of the sway bar!

allout06 01-01-2014 01:58 AM

Lol I posted this before. Im open to all options. Happy 2014 smuckers. :)

wes96z 01-01-2014 10:40 AM

would a strut tower brace help?

Superman09 01-01-2014 10:43 AM

Remove it Josh. If you don't like it, then figure out a way to put it back on but I'd try driving it without first and I doubt you will even worry about finding a way to put it back on ;)
