Default Single 44mm Wastegate wasn't enough...

So close to getting this headache of a project finished...

Specs were:

Stock LS1
317 heads with springs
LS9 headgaskets
ProComp Head Studs
Huron Speed V1 kit
Tick Performance Stage 2 Turbo Cam
7475 Precision Turbo
Built 4L60E
Yank Billet 3600 stall
44mm Wastegate

Was going ok until they put it in 3rd to make a preliminary power pull. Spiked to 19psi almost instantly and bent a rod. Already have a L33 on it's way and will try again with a new Precision PTE 60mm wastegate.

Just a heads up for anyone using the kit I STRONGLY recommend a much bigger wastegate.

I ran a 38mm with it and my T7875, boost spiked maybe 2-3psi when I set it to 12. But this was on my 6.0.

It was an XS Power wastegate I got with the kit. Don't really know what to say but that particular combination didn't hold boost.

Where is the WG location? In the same spot as you received it from Huron Speed?

I had to move my WG location because of boost creep issues. I am using their first kit as well. Im using a Turbo Smart 45 gate and it works perfectly since I moved it to the new location.

Same location as when it arrived from them. I am hoping the bigger wastegate helps the issue and I don't have to re-weld anything.

I thought that as well, but how much is the new gate? I moved the gate location for cheap compared to a new gate that might still have the same issue.

Yea I just read it. New gate I got at a ridiculously low price. I think I am going to have them hack off the "adapter" part as well and shorten it for the 60mm. Guess I should have searched more and realized there was a LOT of creep issues. Mine just took the brunt of it haha.

I was going to do the same, but the shop local to me that was tuning it, actually builds kits and they didn't think that would help. That's why I opted for them to just re-do the location.

Hopefully it works for you

I'm running a Huron Speed kit with a PT Billet 7675 on a 383 and it creeps a few but not much.

Are you sure you didnt have the high psi wastegate spring in it? I have the 44mm gate from hs in my kit and the low spring is only like 8 psi. IMO that might have been your issue.

Use a quality wg and proper location, the size of the gate isn't the problem. My 46mm precision gate can control down to 1lb without a problem on a 7675.

I am still unsure on your spike as I have never seen anything even close to that! In any event however, we have seen a couple psi creep from only a few customers in the past total. We have revised the WG location as well as size in our V2 kit and all remaining V1 kits we have bumped up the Wg tubing size as well as shortened it slightly with a 44mm flange.
Keep me posted, if you need anything else let me know!
