Default Aluminum exhaust- Street car

I'm really considering making my 4" full exhaust out of aluminum after the down pipe. Any one running it on a street car? Cracking a problem? 16 gauge thick enough? Thanks for any info.

We have a twin turbo lightning running around Fort Worth area for over a year.
No problems.
Dual 3" exhaust from down pipes to the front rear tire exit.

Freakishly light mufflers sounded nice as well.

That's good to hear, do you remember what gauge tubing you used?

Aluminum won't crack just use good aluminum as the lower quality likes to shift and use more supports in hotter front area , I make my own mufflers using SS mesh true center. Save me over 40 lbs.

I'd probably run 11 ga until after the first bend. Then 16 should be fine.

The down pipe is already done in steel, the weight of it alone is what made me want to go aluminum the rest of the way.

I hear ya there. My 4" stainless downpipe is pretty heavy and it is just fender exit.

No sure don't. I could hold both sides up with mufflers in place to tighten up the last hanger.
In guessing .065 or less.

CANSTER, that it a clean job!

14ga is a good balance between weight and strength.
Here is the way I hung Dan's system in the center to prevent drooping. Welding a tab or bracket to the tubing will eventually tare out. I split a piece of stainless 3" ID tubing to saddle the aluminum and used T bolt clamps to clamp it to the tubing. I welded my brackets to the saddles.

Hope this helps.

Chris, you should sell those aluminum dual exhaust as a kit with different options for mufflers on your website. You guys have built some pretty awesome stuff, you just need to market it more.

We expanded fit slip over then welded, else all the hangars we made out of aluminum, i welded on a 1 1/4 inch long halve pipe reinforcement then welded the hangars on it in this way there's no tear from vibration, note front hangars above the tubing and not visible, a 1/2 aluminum rod fits true a rubber muffler hangar for slip into place no bolts or screws installation, else is a 3 piece for ease of handling, at the track we remove the rear two pieces.

I used all ball and socket connection.

By the way we use four mufflers to keep noise low on three inch cause if not will be loud.

Incredibly the four muffler system is not much louder at WOT than it is at idle.

I did 11 gauge for the first two bends and 16 gauge for the rest. Seems good so far.

Run .065 wall(16ga) for my AXLE back on my vette...made mufflers, etc..so far, so good. When I have some extra time and cash... we'll get rid of the steel mid pipes,..and also go aluminum.

Nice work on those mufflers.

I have 16 gauge stainless form the turbos down to the frame. About 3 feet. I have 16 gauge aluminum for the rest of the exhaust.
