Boostleash, eboost 2 or AEM Tru boost for a mostly street car.

I want to order an electronic boost controller and I've narrowed it down to three in the thread title. The car is going to be mostly street driven with some weekend fun during test-n-tune days at the track. Which would you go with and why? I'm leaning toward the Tru boost just because of the price.

Boost leash hands down Randy is great to deal with if you ever need help setting it up. And when you learn it it's so simple to control not to mention it's very easy to wire up

AEM tru boos works great also.

I've decided just from doing research the last few days that this is the way I am going to go. I am going to order it today.

I love my AEM trueboost. Easy to use and works perfectly.

willizm 07-15-2014 12:34 PM

Aem works good
Eboost2 works great
Pulse leash might be overkill for your needs.

my very first thought was....

caviar, octopus or halibut.... lol

wild1100 07-15-2014 06:53 PM

used em

Have arm try boost now. Yes it works but takes a lot to dial it in. Also runs on duty cycle percentage and spring pressure. For high horsepower street car and you want to hook up use boost leash. Activates at 2 psi and has easy to use timer to come into more boost so the tires dont go up in smoke.

I just bought a leash v2. I searched and searched looking for the "best controller" out there....had a chance to get a few AMS 1000's ect for little or nothing.....have great deals offered to me for eb2. I went with a leash. It seems to be the most direct...simplified way to control. And has a ton of neat features and is upgrade-able. Randy is super nice, and I highly recommend it.

INDUSTRY BEST controller highly debatable for track cars using 5 stages of boost control and CO2 tanks...

and most practical for a street car are two different things

the 270 dollar AEM will act as a boost gauge, show peak, and have 3 settings, gate, A and B settings

you can also wire it to a scramble wire and you could run it as you hit 2nd gear or 3rd gear to hit high boost automatically.

i was able to adjust 6-20lbs in my last fairmont.

i knew off was 515whp, A was 665whp and B was 790whp

one button to change between power settings, no c02 and no problem to install and use in the car.

obviously a leash or ams1000 is incredible for a race car.
but my friend has one in his mustang and its pretty annoying to use while just rolling around to have fun.

Itd be nice if one of these companies would offer a TRUE boost by gear controller that uses rpm vs vss to determine what gear you're in. (Obviously for m6 cars) Time based boost controllers are great for the track, but thats it. The AEM EMS will do this, but havent seen a standalone boost controller that will, and with everything you can do with HPTuners, having a standalone isnt needed for most LS applications. Im looking at probably going with the AMS500, as I hear its the most consistent controller (which is what Im primarily looking for), but something like that, with calculated boost by gear would be REALLY nice.

leash is about to offer it . I just didnt want to wait.

Awesome! My car wont be running anytime soon anyways, so Im sure itll be available once Im ready.

we have a can adapter you can tie into any 2006 + vehicle and it will derive undriven wheelspeed and engine rpm so you can do mph based boost control with ams2000. Its pretty bad ass. We have many street cars using this set up and they love it

rotary1307cc 07-31-2014 07:14 AM

They are all toys compared to the AMS if trying to put down power on the street or track on small tire
The ams is the easiest thing in the world to use

Just curious what feature does the AMS have that the leash doesn't for launching?

never used a leash, should really be the same product as a 1000 though for the most part

the 1000 rocks on the street with air, i have it tied in where i can pick whether i want the transbrake or footbrake with a flip of a switch

so i can be rolling footbraking, let go of the brake and the timed sequence starts, every time you touch and release the pedal it will reset and start. doest get simpler

i have high power friends and it is bogus them trying to get real power down on the street with the aem or e boost compared to me

Most decent EMS's will let you do it, which given the price of some standalone controllers...makes the move to a standalone ecu make more sense costwise.

Plex boost controller will do it

I think this one does as well.

I do agree though that all these BS claims from companies saying they do boost by gear...and similar features when in reality they do not, is annoying.
Most just offer sequential boost increments assuming you are changing gear, rather than proper boost by gear. And as you say, timed boost control is useless for anything other than drag racing from a standstill.

rotary1307cc 08-01-2014 11:53 AM

Time based is anything but useless on the street with an auto

It doesn't matter if in am rolling 10mph or 50mph and get on it. The short time ramp on allows u to get the power in and keep traction

rotary1307cc 08-01-2014 12:11 PM

Little 26" drag radials, rwd, stock ems, normal blacktop road, and simple single stage time base control........... no fancy aftermarket ECUs or traction control.

If I was running true boost or eboost it would be 5.1
