Vortech G-Trim SQ version LOCKED UP!
Vortech G-Trim SQ version LOCKED UP! Went to go for a quick spin and I went through first an second and in third it started to pull for a second and then in nosed over like it hit the revlimiter but I as only around 4k so I drove back to the shop and thought that I just threw a belt but that was not the case it was broke. Looked around for something that might have caught the belt ETC... nothing it was then that I decided to try and turn the supercharger and nope wouldn't turn. So I took off the intake runner and it looks as thought the bearing went. I am not an expert but I had one with me (On bearings anyway) he think the same thing. I have good oil flow before anyone jumps to that conclusion and as a matter of fact it was pumping it into my intake so the car was smoking (White smoke)real bad out the exhaust when I was limping back (Explained that). I only had the time on the dyno when tunning and about 5-10 mile when driving it to get A/C charged and a front end lined up no real hard runs on it yet only taking it up to around five grand couple of times to get the feel for it ETC.. revs real fast and just spun the tires. I am still waiting on my hood to get painted and a few other items to finish the car so I guess this is one more item I will have to deal with. I am going to request the HD strait cut gears this time like everyone else is having good luck with. Sorry it was so long just a lot to say tonight.

I had one of the old style SQs self destruct, thought they had it fixed.. Like anything though you are going to get a bad part once in a while. Sucks when you are the one that gets it but I'm sure they will take care of it since its new. Positive nothing got sucked in the blower?

These SQ trims seem to be nothing but trouble. My straight cut is holding up great. Helical gears have much different loading characteristics than a straight cut gear. The helical gears themselves may actually be stronger as you should have more tooth contact. But the side loading on the bearings may be the problem these Units may be having.
Just speculation on my part.

just a little gear talk I quickly found doing a search-

One potential downfall with Helical Gears is that they do produce thrust loads along the shaft. The higher the Helix angle, the greater the thrust produced. This must be taken into consideration when choosing supporting bearings for the shaft. "

SJH I believe you are correct in your theory because my bearing expert and I concluded that the bearing went. And as far as having a kink in the return line not a chance I installed mine while the motor was out of the car everything is as strait as it could possibly be and no kinks any where. I found about a quart of oil in the intake plumbing and in the intake its self. I have stated the clean up process. Vortech has already said no problems send it back and we will send you a strait cut version. So atleast they are standing behind it right now. Will keep you updated
