Default 5.3 turbo, or 243 heads cam?

Being a father on a budget, I am torn on what direction to go. Boost is my end goal, but I'd like to have some extra horsepower for the spring. I currently have a set of 243s and full bolt ons. Should I sell the ls1 and the heads for an eBay turbo setup, or just run them? Heavily considering a 5.3 turbo setup because the power gains are greater, and it is more in line with my tastes. What do you guys think?

If you come into the forced induction section asking to boost or not to boost, your answers are going to be fairly one-sided.

im one of the one sided guys but I can tell you. you can't get close to the power n/a without giving up all the street manors. if you want your car to drive like a stocker and have 10 second power a turbo is the only way.

1 vote for turbo you wont be disappointed.

+1....usually for the cost of X-horse power it would take more money to achieve the goal NA in comparison to turbo. Plus the sound and feel a turbo setup is just a whole different animal.

Turbo setups are far from cheap and as far as Ebay stuff goes id stick to strictly cxracing or On3. Even those kits have recently went up in price. In the end it all depends on how deep your pockets are. Imo if your going to do it do it right the first time with a good kit. And like posted above comparing a turbo setup to a heads cam package is apples to oranges.

Thanks guys. I had a boosted 383 lt1 car and it got me addicted. I found a decent deal on a long crank 6.0, so I probably will go that route.

Why not keep your 243s and throw a turbo on?

keep your 243s and buy a 5.3L and put them on it and get turbo stuff to go in, then when engines done sell LS1 to recoup any loss, had a 5.3L with 243s and blower cam on 12psi and 16psi, 12psi i was barley holding traction in 3rd with 315s and 16psi 1st 2nd and 3rd gear where a joke, 3.70 gears and 315/35 nitto 555s

can do a cheap and very fun set up with the 5.3, just make sure u get a good fuel system
