That's what I was thinking late last night. But what the IC change did prove to me was that it was the lack of fuel that was causing the weak idle. I'll reset the IC to 127 and start bringing my VE up in the idle areas.
Thanks !

Just want to say thanks again man. I have a 5.3/4l60e combo with a 3 bar map and a copy of the standard HPtuners. After going through your thread, I am feeling a bit more confident about pushing my luck now.

I set the IC back to 127 and went thru my VE table. I increased it from the stock 5.3 settings to Denmahs 3 bar and she fired right up and idled.

VE Before..

VE After...

One other thing I don't think I mentioned on the 2 bar and 3 bar MAP sensor settings.

Fire up the editor, open your file, click

I'm seeing some people refer to changing the offset value also, but I'm not yet seeing a consensus on the proper value or the way to calculate what it should be.

The way I get my offset is kinda MAP values for dummies lol, whatever sensor I'm using I try to reference the vehicle it is originally on and pull the values from that. So far I have not run into not finding the values but have found a quite a few differences in what others say the settings are and what GM has created. So far it has worked out for me.

Cyper, are you talking about the MAP transfer function table?

Sub'd. Looking to play with SD in the very near future.

I changed out my MAP sensor to a new 3 bar and had to reset the map sensor linear to 329.41 and the offset to -6.35 .

I found a site that had the calc's for the sensors.

_________________KPA__VOLTS
P1(Lowest reading) 20 0.4
P2(Highest reading) 300 4.65
Linear Slope = (P2KPA - P1KPA) / (P2VOLTS - P1VOLTS) * 5(VOLTS) 329.4117647
Range (4.65volts = 306.45kpa) 306.35
Offset = (4.65 volts = 306.35kpa of range. 306.35 - P2KPA) -6.35 Note: converted to negative

The MAP linear and offset. Sorry for late response.
So far I have not had trouble with the settings of known sensors in stock form whether it be 1bar, 2bar or 3 bar.

Recently I received notice from HPTuners that version 3.0 was available. While there are many new features, there are some things to consider about going from version 2.24 to 3.0. Notably, your config files will not work as-is. Apparently the redesign is of a scale/scope that they didn't make the config files 'backwards compatible'.
Secondly, and this is the one that made me unload version 3.0 and go back to 2.24, the new version does NOT have RTT (Real time tuning).

Something to mention, if you go to control panel and uninstall version 3.0, then go to HPTuners and click to download version 2.24, it will STILL download and install version 3.0. I tried 3 times, thinking I must have done something wrong, but each time it indeed downloaded and installed version 3. I finally had to resort to my original install CD to get back to version 2.24 so I could get my RTT back.

They are supposed to be implementing "auto-tune" in version 3.1. The release should be about a week away according to the hp forums. Awesome thread by the way. How's the car running?

Gammey4, Still attaching, setting up items on the car. I tried a new tune over the past weekend, and it was better at 1700+ rpm but struggled to idle. I then put back the prior tune and it was back to idling strongly. I hope my contract in Dallas ends soon so I can spend more than an hour every other weekend(my travel arrangements) on the car. So frustrating to have all this potential in the engine, and I can't get any meaningful time to finish it.

I'm seeing the RTT referred to as 'auto-tune' as well on some web pages.
When I think of *auto tune*, I envision something more like;
  • For Idle - Engine fully warm. Running below 1,000 rpm at steady state for 30 seconds - Read wide band, read RPM, read MAP. If AFR rich, lean out till 14.7. If Lean, add fuel till 14.7. Store VE offsets in temporary table. Then a dialog box pops up, asking if you want to apply the offsets to your current tune.
  • For Cruise - Engine fully warm. Running at/above 1,500 rpm at steady state for 30 seconds - Read wide band, read RPM, read MAP. If AFR rich, lean out till 14.7. If Lean, add fuel till 14.7. Store VE offsets in temporary table. Then a dialog box pops up, asking if you want to apply the offsets to your current tune.
  • For WOT - Engine fully warm. Dialoge box pops up with three choices, "Naturally Aspirated", "Supercharged" and "Turbo". This is to get general AFR for each. Throttle Position Sensor at 100% - Read wide band, read RPM, read MAP. If AFR rich for desired target AFR, lean out till target reached. If Lean, add fuel till target AFR reached. Store VE offsets in temporary table. Then a dialog box pops up, asking if you want to apply the offsets to your current tune.
  • Spark tables - Same general idea as above but using knock sensor, RPM, MAP.

I have Auto Tune feature with the MS Gold Box in TunerStudio which dials the VE table automatically then you just save to the Gold Box (super easy). I have not used the RTT in HP Tuners as it was not written for any of the PCM's I have, but understand it as using the VE error histogram to make adjustments and then copy and paste to tune file. I could be wrong and hope they do implement more of an auto-tune feature which can be used on a broader range of OEM PCM's.

It's a pretty big joke the MS and other tuning products have had auto VE tuning for years and years now. At one point HP tuners mentioned they were going to add it but it still hasn't happened.
