Default 2step/tbrake tunning with HPT. Help me spool up quick!!

Hi all, so I'm going through and starting to tune my car for the new turbo. Before with the PT7675 on my car I was able to build up 10-12psi on the tbrake/2step with a pretty conservative 3000-3100rpm. It seemed to spool up rather quickly too, although I never messed with it to get it even quicker.

Fast forward to today I'm starting to do some logs and making some tweaks. Without touching a thing I'm building up about 7psi on the 2step/tbrake. It takes approximately 2.2 seconds for the turbo to spool up with approximately 17-18degrees of timing. So my question is 2 parts. If I want quicker spool would I add timing to those areas on the table? How much and would you ramp it up? 2nd part is that I have a Yank PY3400 converter that I like, but how high could you push the 2step?

I'd imagine that added timing will help spool time whereas rpm on the 2step would help with boost pressure correct?

First pic is me matting the pedel on the 2step/tbrake

This is right when I'm letting off the button.

No answer here.. But I'm sub'd for more tuning knowledge! I don't see a problem with ramping up the timing as long as you don't see any detonation.

These two threads have some pretty good info:

Hey Willizm, I actually was doing some testing on my car today as far as spool time is concerned. Little background on my car:

370ci LQ4
Garrett 73mm, T6, 0.96 A/R, 89mm turbine
236/232 - 114LSA
AFR 225cc
E50

So I knew about the whole, lean it out, and increase timing to spool, which I have done pretty well, but, it still seems like it takes too long to spool this thing. I mean, it's not like I am trying to spool a 1.32AR 88mm. On my log, it took 2.5seconds to spool from pretty much atmosphere to 9psi. I think this is too long.

Pretty much all the way through the spool, I command 0.95lambda AFR and I run 22* timing. Are any of you guys running leaner than this, or more timing than this?

I had my 2 step set at 3200, and I have basically a 3200 stall, but with no 2 step it will push to 4000rpm @9psi on the brake.

I should also state that my hotside is completely wrapped, and I also have tested for boost leaks, and are good on that too. Have you checked for leaks Willizm?

I'm pretty sure I'm good on the boost leak front. I haven't tested anymore than last but I'm going to try to through some more timing at it to see if it will spool up quicker although if push comes to shove i'll just get a bump box. I'd imagine if I bump up my 2step a couple hundred rpm it may help the time a little and put me up at around 10psi.

Yeah, I am trying out 30* of timing up to 4psi this weekend, I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Ok, I got a LITTLE bit of data still definitely not done. Now it spools from 0-5 a whole faster. I was straight up just going from 0-100% TPS on the 2step and transbrake in the garage, so the car has to flash off idle, and then build boost, but here were some results:

100-150kpa -> 3.5 seconds - 21.5*
100-150kpa -> 3.0 seconds - 26*

I am not done testing. I am going to try out 30* tomorrow, and also my fuel was rich in the 100-115 range, which is exactly where you do not want it rich. So, I am hoping to have this down to 2 seconds flat. Also keep in mind that I am obviously not putting the car on the footbrake at all for these tests, and then going to transbrake. So these numbers are the LONGEST it would ever take my car to spool. I am sure it is going to to spool at least 2 times quicker when I get it up on the footbrake, push into the stage beam, and then go WOT on the transbrake and 2 step. Like I said, I have a race tomorrow, so I will have a lot of data.

I actually have the leaner and 30* timing tune in my car right now, but will not be able to test it out until tomorrow. So I will check back in soon.

NOTE: This is on E50 fuel.

If you can post a screenshot of your histogram spark table please do so. What is your AFR look like?

Ok here is a couple of things for ya. The first one is the histogram of one of my runs at the track. So hope that helps ya out. Just keep in mind, that your g/cyl @ a certain psi, may be different than mine, so, where mine drops to 24* timing, is where mine hits 5 psi. My AFR's were spot on this weekend, so I just posted you up my BE table for you to look at. And lastly is a video from my runs this weekend. The audio got kind of messed up for some reason, but whatever. My spark log is from the 3rd and fastest run. Enjoy.
