'84 Cutlass 5.3L Twin BW Turbo Build
Hey all,
Been back and forth with builds over the last few years due to family life, insane amount of work and simply changing my mind.
Originally had this car set up as a single turbo Borg Warner S400SX4-75mm but didn't want to relegate the car to just straight line duties. With the birth of my son and sizable changes in the insurance plan the company I work for provides, paying for normal doctors visits became a lot more expensive greatly limiting the money available to play. I ended up selling off the turbo setup but kept the motor and trans (4L80e with HD2 kit and a RevMax 3200 stall billet converter) in hopes that I would find the time and resources to finish this build.
Fast forward to now, I am finally getting myself back into the garage occasionally, in between taking classes for a PhD and working 60+ hours a week. I purchased all the swap parts that Holley offers in an attempt to eventually get AC back in the car and morph it into a jack of all trades.
While I am not looking to win drag week or anything like that I would like this setup to handle and get out of its own way.
Here's a shot of how she currently sits...sans turbo and intake:
Trans and converter:
TransGo HD2:
I now have a few extra goodies in my possession...you know...to lay with...
Got a very good deal on a pair of AGP Borg Warner 56mm turbos. Should be good for at least 800 whp but don't think I will spin them that hard. 5.3l currently has an LS9 cam on board and will stick with that for now. Eventually I want to hit up Martin or Liljohn for a stick when I get this pig figured out. Running LS6 intake as well because I want to get a everything under a flat or 2" cowl at most.
Plan to start updating this a little more regularly. I am at the end of the term for my doctorate so I have a few months off. Hopefully I will make decent progress. Here's a parting pic of her at Atco during her glory days.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks buddy...been a crazy year. Just couldn't get the single packaged the way I wanted. Needed some time away from it to finally get my head right. Stumbled upon these turbos on another site, took some measurements and was like, "Well...damn....this might work!"
You bet...something to note, I did not have power steering in on that car. I modified a truck PS/Alt bracket (straightforward to do) and still have that. May sell that now that I think of it...haha. Just stripped and repainted the power steering pump tonight being a bit lazy tonight.
Looking to order up the hot side tubing this week so I can get the turbos mocked and mounted. Very excited about this build as I have a very clear picture of how I want everything to fit. I know these turbos aren't huge power producers, but they will be more than enough to put 800 to the ground. I doubt I will ever squeeze them that hard anyway!
Should have some more pics up this week! Will be lifting the motor and adding the Holley (Hooker) engine and trans mount package (have all that junk sitting in my basement). Will most likely be listing the 1.875" stainless headers for sale this week as well.
Thanks guys and promise to have pics with the stuff out of the boxes next time...hahaha

Nice size update today...got the engine and trans solidly mounted in their final resting place. Contrary to what Holley states, I was able to use their trans crossmember and solid moroso style mounts with 1" setback plates from Car Shop. I already had a CTSV pan prepped for dual drains a while back and wanted to use it for this build. Plus I don't want the engine moving a lot with all the turbo piping.
On to the pics!!!!
Using a truck accessory drive with the Dirty Dingo (I believe) idler pulley relocation bracket. I will need to chop off the old idler mount in order to clear the LS1 intake. I may have to get a smaller PS pulley because of interference with the PS pump...OR...grinding the offending bolt may due the trick. Will have an update on that this week.
I was able to grab three pre-existing bolt holes for the trans crossmember and adapted one of the holley brackets to get the fourth...pretty damn simple actually!
Sorry for the crappy pics...tried a video but I'm too fat and it was too dark to see detail so I will work on that for next time.
Revmax billet converter
Much more to come...ordered all the hotside piping last week so it should be here this week...woohoo!
