Default LS1, Magnuson 2300, AI 317 Heads

Hi guys,

Wondering what you guys thought about this set up, and what kind of power I could be expecting?

LS1 stock bottom, full dual exhaust, 1-3/4 hooker longtubes, no cats.
Magnuson tvs2300
AI worked 317 heads
Brute speed blower cam

t56
3.89 gears in a ford 9"

Thanks in advance
Sid

What pulley on the front and rear?

You will hate the 3.89 gear on that set-up with a T56 if you drive it on the street alot.

Without more info I could see that combo pushing well above what your SBE LS1 can safely handle. It will be a fun ride though.

Why would I hate my 3.89 gears?

As far as pullies I guess I don't have that figured out yet? What would safe boost be with the 317s? 8-9lbs?

Let me know what else I need to provide for more information on the car

Thanks for the input.

Got rid of a HD, so it's time to spend some money on the camaro.
My set up will still be close to the same as mentioned above in the first post.

Anyone have some experience with AI 317 heads used with boost?
How about their custom custom grinds to match their heads?

Looks like it would work fine on pump gas. Remember boost is just a number based on restriction in/at the port/valve. The AI 317 heads will flow about as well as thier ported 243 just with a larger combustion chamber - which will offer more power at lower psi over a stock head. It is all about airflow into the engine, not a number on a boost gauge.

Sounds good. Trying to get information straight before the trigger gets pulled on the parts. I appreciate the input

They will be the injectors included in the TVS2300 kit which I believe are 60lb injectors.

Been a while since last post...but got all the parts

TVS2300...stock pulleys from ls1 GTO kit..so not sure on boost press.
LS9 injectors/aeromotive 340 pump
AI 317 232cc head package
AI 230/238-113+2 .605/.605
Monster LT-1 Twin disc

Just getting started on the build now. Ill try to post pics up as it progresses. All this stuff is going in my 69 Camaro.

In the process of putting the tank back in with the new pump, then the motor and tranny are coming out to get the other goodies.

You are going to like that setup. Dives like a stock car until you mash the gas. Make sure you put a safe tune on it so you don't break any ring lands from detonation. Out of the box, standard pullies should get around 6--7 pounds of boost. If you have the engine out. change the front crank pulley to a larger one-Innovators West or ATI and you will be set for adding more boost.

Personally I also agree that the 3.89 gear will be way too much with a Magnuson and T56. Id go down to a 3.42 or something. You'll be all over the road and id suspect 1st and 2nd gear will be useless.

any feedback on those heads? i'm about to do some top-end work on my TVS2300 LS1 and am back & forth between 317s or 799s (vs just porting my 853s).
it'd be dropping to about 9.5 CR or bumping to 10.5

and for what it's worth, i've been running 10-11psi on my stock 2000 LS1 for 6yrs with no problems

Sorry man, not much info yet as far as running. I ran out of time this winter and didn’t get it to the point of starting it up and tuning it. I had a pretty good hold up when I was starting to install my vintage air. Also had some fabrication to do on my hood latch since the intercooler had created clearance problems for the stock 69 hood latch assembly.
Pretty much on a stand still now until the weather gets colder. Then I’ll get back to it. The AI heads are supposed to flow...

for what it's worth: i did a bit more reading/asking around & went with a set of ported 243s for the compression bump considering how big of a cam we used.
with the new pulleys also turning about 12% faster, we just let it eat & softened the tune. feels great so far @ 650whp & still got about 20mpg driving 3hr home @ 85-90mph

Wow, that’s nice. I’m still sitting on mine. Getting closer. It’s been a longer process than I’ve hoped. Not that the work has been hard, just haven’t had enough time to dedicate to it. Sh*t excuse, I know. I hope the 317 heads I did will help me produce those kinds of numbers. Which pulley did you put on?

Been a loooooong time coming but….

Finally got mine rolling. Made 6psi. 500hp/490tq with a 3.2 front pulley on a mustang dyno.

Pretty sure I could go a ways with boost yet and be good.

Lots of fun to drive. 1st is pretty much intsa rev limiter if you lay on it.
