Clean and simple, sir. Good job, so far. What other plans do you have for it?

Thanks. The plan is to keep it a street car. So 10.0 is the et goal. A cam, converter and safety gear should get me there. More pressing though is the body work. Man, is this thing ugly. haha

Nice job man, simple and to the point. Same thing I was going for. I love driving my old beater G body its an absolute riot.

Thanks. I've seen your build too. Very similar plumbing setup. Simple and effective. And you're right. I love driving this thing. It's so quiet and drives effortlessly.

Glad you could make it last weekend and great job putting the car together.

HeavyMetl 09-30-2015 05:21 PM

Nice setup and eerily similar to my truck.

I'll be following this to see just how quick you eventually push the car. I'm (finally) getting a boost controller on my truck next week and hoping for a 10 second pass. I've been 11.44 at 4100lbs on 10psi. Hoping 15psi gets me to a 10.99...

Thanks Nate. The lady and I had a blast. Already commited to next year.

Hey, I noticed your truck at Union Grove for drag week. I just came to spectate. The truck runs good.

It is indeed eerie how similar our builds are. The buick doesnt weigh much less either. I'd guess 3800 with me in it. I'd like to push 11.50 out of it this season but that's it for a while. The roll bar wont go in until after the body work is complete. As far as the 10 second pass, I think you'll have that easy at 15 psi. The buick really woke up going from 10 to 15. It was running 15 psi for the 127 trap.

Man I get goosebumps just thinking about that day at the Grove! Incredible crowd and atmosphere, my uncle who was with me said "it's like the 60's here, now you see why we were always nostalgic".

Due to the tailwind I had my best trap speed that day, 118.69. The ol' truck doesn't really have aerodynamics on it's side.

Good to hear the jump from 10 to 15 psi was big. I expect the same.

I know what you mean! I have never seen those stands packed like that! What a great time.

Is that the old precision turbo buick intercooler?

In the middle of a very similur build and was curious what your accesories are set up like to run a low mount AC compressor? I can see your using the truck alt/PS pump bracket but whats the idler pulley from and where did you get it?

Nice build by the way! Talked alot with jtotheizzo on his build and he's been a big help for my dumb questions!!!

Thanks and the accessory drive is nothing special. Everything is the truck setup except the f-body water pump with spacers and a dirty dingo idler relocation. Neither of those items are necessary with my setup. I just wanted a shorter upper radiator hose. Initially, I installed the idler relocation so I could install a late model l99 camaro water pump. Unfortunately, that water pump's heater outlets wouldn't clear my turbo log and that's my reason for swapping to the f-body pump and spacers. With the 98-02 pump and spacers, I have acceptable clearance to the turbo log. For safe measures, the heater hoses have firesleeve on them though.

Once again though, the accessory modifications I made were not necessary. My build just sort of evolved into that setup. All stock truck accessories will work great.

Jtotheizzo has a nice clean and simple build. Been seeing more log style builds with g-bodies lately. Have you started a build thread with yours?

jtotheizzo 10-15-2015 01:16 PM

Awwww, y'all making me blush. That's what it is all about sharin info.

I might be switching to twins over the winter. Hoping to get some better times before pulling this setup apart though.

toyin 10-15-2015 04:31 PM

jtotheizzo car is clean and simple just the way i like it. I can't wait to see the little bugs worked out and see what it can really do!

I haven't started a build thread yet because i haven't gotten everything figured out yet. Once my ducks are in a row ill definitely start a build thread. I have a 87 Grand National LY6 6.0, 4L80E, S480, racetronix's double pumper set up that will be managed with the Holley dominator EFI. I welded the turbo drain about a 1/8" off so i had to pull it back apart and cut and replace it. Like jtotheizzo mentioned though i to see twins in the future so i'm gonna weld on another turbo drain for the drivers side so when the time comes i just need to fabricate and plumb everything.

You don't have any pictures or build threads you could point me in the direction to with the modifications I need to make to the bracket do you? If not no biggy ill be going to the shop tomorrow and see what i can do to get everything to fit.

bigmandengo 10-17-2015 10:15 AM

I hear ya. I kept telling myself to start a build thread along the way but laziness got the best of me.

You have a sweet combo of parts already. That thing will move out. I'm also interested to see how you fit that massive Borg Warner under the hood.

Are you referring to the modifications to the alternator bracket?

FourG63 97GST 10-17-2015 12:35 PM

well done, those bodies have so much room for activities

Thanks im pretty excited!

I was talking about the AC compressor bracket. After some test fitting im sure a 3.5" DP will clear everything so i should be ok. Since i decided im doing AC i had to moved the turbo drain fitting next to the oil level sensor. While installing the pan today i broke one of the long rear oil pan bolts:gruffy: Luckly it was easy to removed and i will steal a bolt out of my buddies 5.3 and see if i can continue fitting things up tomorrow.

Did you order the cross over and down piping online or get it locally? I REALLY hope mine turns out as well as yours does! Looks very nice!
