ARP head bolts on Boosted motors??

I have a brand new set of ARP head bolts that I plan to use on my 6.0 rebuild. I have a 228R 112 CL cam from TX SPD and a fresh rebuilt set of 243's with spring kit and a trunion upgrade.

My question is if I later decide to boost the motor will the ARP head bolts hold up or is the high dollar head studs a must?

Thanks in adance and keep them hooking...

My engine building consultant told me bolts for NA and studs for boost. He's built some pretty impressive stuff so I use that as a general rule in my engines.

It depends on your goals if your looking for 6-750 the bolts will be fine

thanks guys. I'm not going for over 650 so I'll probably just throw on the bolts. If I decide to boost it I may roll the dice...lol

Stock reused bolts have been over 700whp.
ARP bolts will be fine.

but studs are always better

I think studs are always better in a situation where the heads may come off from time to time. Just so that the threads in the block don't get screwed-up. Had a bad experience with that on one of my BBC's.

You can get china studs for 100.00 through Jegs, so why not?

I had an iron 5.7 built for my street truck back in the day. I used ARP head bolts. Used Cometic gaskets and some stock 706 heads. Also had a decent A2A on it and an alky control meth kit. Procharged deal.

Funny thing is.....I got greedy at the track one day (truck was making 14 lbs of boost) and decided to keep adding timing till the truck quit picking up mph. On the last pass, I had 24* locked in it for the entire pass. Next morning found some water on the trailer under the truck and there was a clear trail of dried coolant going down the side of the block. It lifed the heads pretty bad.

3 months later (and still having never pulled the valve covers), I went back out to the track. This time the blower made 23 psi at shift point). Never pushed a single drop. Truck was about 750 rwhp at this boost level.

Moral of the story is the tune up is the first priority, then other things like bolts or studs, also, the bolts have been proven numerous times on boosted applications.

ARP bolts here with 20lbs and never had an issue. As mentioned, nothing going to help if the tune is too aggressive. Bolts work fine otherwise.

Don't use bolts your heads will blow off right through your hood like a fuel car!

I have the ARP bolts not studs running about 9-10 lbs of boost, no problems.

Iron 5.7 seen 17lbs several times with a alky control kit and I use the arp bolts on mine never any issues even when I was running a half jacked tune thank u pcm of nc for the hack job
