The adjustable timing sets can only be moved in fixed steps correct? I suppose if you wanted an increment between the minimum/single step and the next to it on either side, then you would need the offset bushing to split the difference. Interesting that the same cam measures out that differently in different blocks/cranks. Good info, thanks.

There goes those ideas...

That cam isn't that different from the stage 2-3 LJMS cams. Plenty of guys running those making nice power.

So what kind of timing were you running at 20lbs? Charge temps?

This would be a good car to see EGT on. I bet its super high because there is NO timing in it. It seems all the cars that randomly dont make power are on some sort of aftermarket EMS and their timing is screwed up.

Turbo D 09-21-2016 02:27 PM

Timing is 13 deg at 250 kpa, IAT's read really low (120*f), i have a closed element sensor I need to change out to a open one that reads faster

JoeNova 09-21-2016 02:31 PM

I would ignore HP.

I made 500 on the dyno on my first trip, and the car would pull away from mid-9 second cars from a roll. I later noticed that a run I did with MPH instead of HP, the dyno was only reading 95 MPH to the 150 my speedo was reading. Heavy tire spin.

Trap speeds will tell more than the dyno.

I'd think there has to be something physically bottle necking airflow for it to surge at big boost.

What are you using for a TB? Sure it's 100% open? Not going past open and starting to close again or something weird?

Martin Smallwood 09-22-2016 09:09 AM

The camshaft the OP is using IMO is not the source of his power issues, I can tell you that much.

dburt86 09-22-2016 09:33 AM

Not trying to start a pissing match here at all,

But i had literally the same situation going on. Car was making decent gains/lb, but numbers were all low. Went from 18psi to 28psi and gained only like 40hp. From like 460 to 500whp)

Pulled it off the mustang dyno and strapped it to a dyno jet. Made 646 first pull with no changes. Made 692 with more timing.

I knew something was off because it was using the same fuel then it was when it made the same 700whp a month ago.

It's a stock throttlebody and a stock ls1 intake which have both been proven to way more power, the boost is being measures in the intake and is verified by the dyno map sensor. I'm running it tomorrow at the track, I'll let you know what the findings are

Forcefed86 09-22-2016 01:06 PM

Wasn't hinting the parts weren't up to the task, only that they may not be functioning properly. Some things gotta be limiting flow to make it surge at big boost. I've never heard of a turbo ls doing that... ever. TB was the only thing in the way I could think in the air path is all.

Do all the plugs look even? Ever get cranking comp test?

Good luck, even at 500whp that suckers gonna fly!

gtfoxy 09-22-2016 01:25 PM

NM: I see it is sans IC.... There goes my theory.

The surging has me concerned & thinking a dyno error is not the primary concern

Nitroused383 09-23-2016 06:06 AM

You sure the intake doesn't have a rag that got sucked inside? The ls1 intake can also break internally.

Turbo D 09-24-2016 01:40 PM

Had it at the track yesterday, went 139mph on 7lbs, 142mph on what I think is 10-11lbs. Stupid ms3 pro box keeps saying the logs are corrupt 50% of the time on the sd card. Back pressure is 2-3lbs above boost on all the runs. I think my car just hates the loaded dyno. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...4849f9415.jpeg

That's good news! Working well!

Forcefed86 09-25-2016 08:52 AM

What was the final race weight?

Turbo D 09-25-2016 05:57 PM

2550 with me

3pedals 09-25-2016 08:53 PM

I run that cam, its good.
My calculator says you are putting down aprox 550 hp, and that seems right to me for 10-11psi on that motor

I've seen a few guys run it, it's pretty dam close to the ljms stage 2 twin turbo cam. I'm going back next friday, hopefully I can get a 8.99/150mph out of it with it turned up a bit and leaving good.
