Default Single turbo first gen Camaros - COME ON IN!

I have a 1969 Camaro with a 416ci, and I am hoping to put a single turbo on in the coming months. After doing some research, and speaking with John at LJMS, I think I was going with a BW billet 485 turbo from forced inductions.

My question in, how tight will fitment, etc be with the T6? My installer seems to think T4 would be a safe bet, but performance wise the T6 is the way to go on a 416ci. John at LJMS says he wouldnt go with a T4, and mentioned a 5" to 4" reducer for the downpipe.

Anyone with experience with single turbos in the first gen camaros??? PLEASE HELP! Thanks ahead of time.

Check out my build thread. T4 but I believe if positioned correctly a t6 could fit. May be my next step to upgrade

If you have a capable fabricator the T6 is no harder to fit than a T4 in a first gen. Your on the right path listening to John's recommendations. I've built several T6 kits without issue.

That's what I was thinking, but figured many have experience in here. John even mentioned using a 5" to 4" reducer on the DP if things are tight.

I have a t4 s480 in my nova with a steel hood and inner fenders so I know it is possible. I run a full 4" downpipe and exaust. i'll post pics tonight. but I don't see a t6 being any different if done right.

I'm also running a 5" down pipe. It's tight but it does fit.

I'm running a 4" pipe, had a T6 boxed S475 1.32AR before swapping to a T4 billet 75 on a smaller turbine for my 4.8. With the T6, we also used a 5" to 4" reducer. Going to see if I can find some pics for you.

Well not a 1st Gen but close (nova) ....anyway I'm close to finishing my turbo build(time for tear down) It's a s475 t6, twin scroll, 2.5 hot side , dual wast gates,4 " dp into dual 3", it's tight real tight . But I didn't go easy route either...full headers, t6 everything under hood and kept the inner fenders....you will have a Lil more room on the camaro then the novas have up front for intercooler and air filter ...

At what power level is the T4 a disadvantage? I'm probably only going for 900-1000 rwhp but we all know how that goes later haha.

Backpressure issues?

Jarrett ran a ton of power through a T4. It's going to be somewhere in that range honestly on these motors. With that large displacement, I'd recommend going T6 if it were me. The size difference between the two (Borg Warner) wasn't THAT great.
