Don't kill me. Another 5.3 cam question Emailed cam motion, no reply, I need a cam quick. setup: Forged 5.3, wiseco pistons, scat rods, 317 heads, compression with 317s will be 8.5:1 but I'm most likely going to swap over to 243s to bring it into the 9.5 :1 cr. Going in a 4400lb+ 78 transam. Going through a t56 magnum. looking to keep it around 700hp using pump gas thinking about going with a genuine s475 still want this thing to sound gnarley, I LOVE the sound of N/A Lopey cams. I don't mind having someone spec me a cam or just buying an off shelf cam. thanks for any suggestions |
get the "sloppy stage 1" trickflow for now with the low CR get a custom cam later when you swap heads |

Turbo Camshaft = Crower Hi, I can supply A Crower camshaft. The "specs" : 212/220 .560"/.525" @ 103 CL. This will do ask asked AND a VERY fast "spool". Lance |
" Why not do it right the first time" ??? Wouldn't that include the heads you want? A point of compression is a big difference when your talking lower compression numbers like those and cam selection. How are the upper rpms on the cam with 103 CL? Seems like a weird combination of CL and .050 duration. The worst thing you can do is have a mismatched combo between heads, compression, cam etc. it won't run nearly as well as a nicely out together combo. |
Stage 3 ljms cam is way to big for your goals. The stage 2 has made over a 1000 whp and still has the sound you are after. They are right a full point of compression is going to be a huge difference on the street. |
PM Stock48 for a Isky triple like everyone else, proven performance |
All of the recommendations in this thread are spot on. I personally would go with the Jegs 228/230 cam. Very good budget choice. Otherwise an LJMS Stage 2 would be my choice. |
228/233 on a 111+4 Same intake open and exhaust close as the shelf stage 2.... more overlap to help get the turbine wheel excited since you do not have a torque converter to spool against. |

I must be misreading this. Same intake open and exhaust close, yet more overlap??? Confused. Sorry |
