Default Wastegate on Mid turbo housing

Hey guys, I'm having difficulty locating a spot for my 60mm wastegate. I've read that is ok to place the wastegate in the turbo housing. Most of the pictures I've seen, the waste gate is located near the flange. My question is can I move the wategate towards the rear, away from the flange? Would it still work?
Here are some pictures so you guys get an idea.

Some guys bore a hole in the hotside housing and weld a flange for the gate.

Jeebus thats a huge gate for a baby turbo. It's bigger than the housing! You could just run a normal 32-44mm gate and save that WG in case you build a 632" motor and need a gate for the 116mm turbo to go with it.

...but yea that placement would work.

Does it matter how far towards the rear I place the wastegate? Is there a limit?... yea the wastegate is huge ! But that's what I have and I'm going with it lol

I don't know if I'd be comfortable hogging out my housing that much. I'd make a smaller 35-45mm hole then transition it to the 60mm gate. That way you don't hog out half of your housing. Doesn't really matter on placement since it's a circle. It will fling the exh out at any point really. Just use where ever it fits best.

when I was researching putting my gate on the housing i came across some thread on YB where the consensus was put the gate in line with the up pipe or as close to as possible.

also mentioned was something about going too far into the scroll having a negative effect on the turbine wheel yadda yadda yadda.

and yeah that gate it too big. send it back to viren and get the 44

It could still cause issues being too large. Sell it and get a 38mm.

Man that sucks , the reason I bough a 60 mm is because I read a bunch of people having boost creep and instead of having dual wastegate a lot of people used a 60mm and it fixed the problem . Especially when you can't place the wastegate at a uptimal placement and angle.

On a turbo that size a 60mm is way too much. The gate probably has more surface area than the turbine inlet.

Who on earth would ever cut a hole in their turbo for something like this? All thats gonna do is cause a ton of turbulence inside the housing and you're gonna sacrifice performance. This has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Matt aka Denmah does it thats who. Gate needs to see direct air flow and I guess that is about as direct that you can get. The factory style turbos have the gate on the turbo so I guess engineers are stupid too?

Since you have exhaust flow around the housing, placement is not as critical. Put a hole anywhere on that housing and the majority of the exhaust will try to escape once it's vented.

Ideally something like this is best IMO.

But if you look at the aftermarket housings available that have the WG area cast in them... you'll see they put them in many different places, they will all work pretty well.

That's because people grossly overlook proper waste gate placement. You'd be amazed what a 38mm gate can control when put in the right location.
