Going turbo. Help Been building my 99 ta for a while now and it has a set of 243 heads and a btr stage 4 na cam as it sits. I came across a great deal on a good OFI TURBO KIT. I plan to run a 7876 on3 turbo and obviously want to make some serious power. This kit kit will be going on a stock bottom end ls1 with over 100k miles. (New timing chain and oil pump) I know it's days are numbered and in the future the plan is to go with a 5.3 or 6.0 Im assuming that the NA CAM WILL NOT BE GOOD SO I NEED HELP ON WHICH CAM TO GO WITH Obviously cheaper is better but I do love a nice sounding cam and I want more LOW END BALLS. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT |
probably something in the .22x/.22x at .050" lobe lift duration wise mid to high .5xx valve lift. intake centerline varies greatly from "turbo cam" to "turbo cam", but with a high packpressure turbo i think 115 + is a fair bet. there's a ton of cams out there. just pick one, open up your ring gaps and start tuning. so far Ive found the actual work with turbo stuff is in the tune, not the wrenching. good luck. Check out the Little John stage 2 turbo cam or Brian Tooley Racing's stage 2 turbo cam. If you go BTR make sure to pick up their spring package rated for .660 lift. Its only 100 bucks more than PAC 1218's and you get a good quality dual spring. |

You should have no significant issues with a mild turbo cam then. Just recheck pushrod length when you install the new cam. |
What kind of numbers do you think I will be looking at with a old school bank intake 85mm tb and a 7678 on3 turbo?

The 7875 should support over 700 tire with good fueling through a truck intake manifold and stock throttle body. I think you'll be limited by the weaker Gen 3 rods around 600 WHP. Most of the stuff I know about runs a 4l80e and they still make over 600 tire unlocked with a 7875. Your numbers will likely be higher with the manual trans. |

I have no idea about a direct comparison. I have never used Lunati cams or valve train components. I thought the BTR cam kit with springs, retainers, locks, spring seats, valve seals, pushrods, and a camshaft was was like 660 bucks. Not a bad deal. The BTR .660" lift springs are $229 if you by them separately with retainers, locks, and seats. So I was wrong before when I said they are 100 bucks more than PAC 1218s, they are more like 50 bucks more and are better springs matched to a BTR turbo cam. |
