Default [VR] Chevrolet SS WORLD RECORD - YSI Supercharged SS Sedan

The SS Sedan has been an amazing platform for those looking for a comfortable family sedan that performs as well as any other Camaro or Corvette on the street. This particular SS owner came to us from South Florida with quite a few modifications already in place, and looking for a shop to assist in meeting his goals of becoming the fastest and quickest SS in the country. Vinny is no stranger to LSX based horsepower, as his other street beast is a Magnuson supercharged LS3 Pontiac G8 making right at 700rwhp through a 6L90E transmission that we also tuned here at Vengeance. However, the SS was a completely different animal in itself.

The cars basis for power comes from an LME built 427ci shortblock built to handle most anything we could throw at it. A full Cam Motion solid roller camshaft and valvetrain along with a set of MAST Motorsports cylinder heads allows this combination to scream up to 8,000 RPM while still being extremely reliable both on the street and track. Lastly, the bulk of Vinny's power comes from a one-off supercharger system focused around a Vortech YSI head unit. A set of Kooks longtube headers allow the combination to breathe and still runs through the OEM mufflers for a tame sound around town, and a set of electric cutouts really wake up the neighbors when needed!

Vengeance came into the picture when the stock 6L80E tranmsission had enough of the 1,000+ horsepower from the engine and supercharger combo, and a new drivetrain setup was planned. For this, we went with a proven combination from our friends at RPM Transmissions and GForce Engineering. The transmission is a RPM Level VI 4L80E controlled by a MSD controller and utilizing an FTI billet triple disc torque converter. This transmission setup allows Vinny to have the ultimate in power handling capabilities while still retaining overdrive functionality for long street cruises with the family. The rear end of the car is focused around a GForce S60 center section with a 35-spline 1500HP axle set, 4" aluminum driveshaft, and 3.73 gear set. Lastly, traction is achieved with the help of a Carlyle Racing 15" conversion kit, and beadlocked S71B Weld Racing wheels wrapped in 275/60/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Pros.

This total combination took just under 5 passes to fully dial in. Once everything was setup, Vinny was able to drive his way to the record setting pass of 9.411 @ 144.71mph with a 1.355 second 60' time with over 2,700 DA! There is still quite a bit left in tuning on the transmission and suspension to get the car down the track even faster later this year. We are preparing for an aftermarket coilover suspension as well as several safety items to be installed as we shoot to push this family sedan into the 8-second range very soon!

If you have any questions on this combination, or would like to see how Vengeance Racing can assist with your LSX performance needs, please e-mail us today at sales@vengeanceracing.net !
