Question Anyone Running the stock cam on their turbocharged LR4 or LM7?

Looking at some swap choices. I am considering either a 4.8 or 5.3 (preferably the cheaper one which is usually the LR4 4.8) to turbocharge. However, it will be such a budget build that I'm considering a bolt on turbo and intercooled, injectors and a tune. The goal for power is 500HP on 91 Octane in a pre-CARB car in California. Still deciding on the car to swap.

Question is, will the stock cam from the truck engines make decent power with a big turbo and make the numbers I want? If anyone is running stock cams with their turbo'd truck engines, please feel free to share your experiences.

Thanks!

yes I have ran the stock cams in a couple engines. first one was a lq4 in a rcsb Silverado. just added the blue springs and nothing else. it ran 11.30 best at 4300 lbs on 15 psi boost on e85. we did run 11.50 with it on 93 pumpgas and 12 lbs boost.

I ran a 4.8 the same way in a 1996 impala ss springs only. it went low 12s but was having traction issues with 17 " wheels. was going 117 mph at the traps though. so im sure with slicks and a good launch it was a good mid 11 car. he did swap to the 112$ ls9 cam and it ran a little better up stairs but spooled slower.

Stock cam LM7 with a single tiny turbo here (64.7 mm). I shift at 5750, have the Pac 1218 springs. 3600lbs, trap 130 at 15psi. foot brake has gotten me to mid 10s like this. I am running e85 this year, but last year ran 93 at 15-16psi and still trapped 128. I know I am leaving power on the table with the stock cam, but its perfect for cruising around. If my transbrake was working I could be hunting for low 10s or high 9s. Some people have gone even faster with stock cams. It seems to make good power and pull pretty hard as it is now, and its got the most mellow exhaust note around haha.

Depending on where you are at, the LR4 is often about the same price as an LM7, maybe $100 difference.
