It worked really good. I did run into one problem though. I ran both pumps on all the time and the magnafuel regulator got out of its "comfortable range" when trying to dial the pressure down to 43 psi. It would stop gaining pressure with boost after about 10-12 psi. I did a mountain of things trying to fix it and nothing worked. Finally I swapped to the big Aeromotive regulator and all was well with the world. The lesson to learn there was that 2 4303's at 43 psi probably flow 4.5 gallons a minute or so of fuel.....way beyond most smaller belt driven pumps. Data log said I was using around 1000-1100 lbs/hr of fuel and the pumps had no issue keeping up. Anyway, there is a ton of tech info about it on the bullet and pt.net. Just search my screen name for threads that I have started. |
Updates: Air/air intercooler ordered from Shearer Fabrications, thanks Ron! Precision wastegates ordered from Motion Raceworks, thanks Doug! Just sent some $ to Jonathon Capizzi! Have to pick up my BOV from local friend Regis C. TH400 trans built by Pete @ POP Wiring and Andy Vogt |
First time seeing the car and plans for it, look good John, cant wait to see it at the track. |
Thanks for the interest. I'd post pics but it's just a pile of parts and boxes. |

On the fuel system I use the twin 4303 and the aeromotive reg plus one pump all the time and one on with boost. This is on my Camaro peg 1500rwhp but fuel usage at 26lb of boost was 2216. On my daily truck on race gas dyno 1208rwhp I run two 450 Waldron pump one all the time and one on boost. Both car and truck on gas. So e85 on the truck I would need one more pump. Hope this will help you. |
Nice, thanks for the info. One of my buddies (Chris Johnson) is going to fab me up a fuel system, details to come. Picked up up my S485 from Jon Capizzi this weekend. Big un! |
looking like a nice build |
Sounds like a nice parts list, I'm curious how you package everything. I would like to add a turbo to my 68 somewhere down the road. |
I can share some pics of my buddy's personal build... Here is a pic of my Shearer a/a intercooler, Garrett core. 3.5 inlet/outlet, v bands. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...7f39ae9153.jpg |
Actually I'm not gonna show pics of my buddy's build, he has the turbo on the driver's side and I will be putting it on the passenger side. |
My turbo specs: Forced Inductions s485, billet 85x114mm compressor, v1 race cover, 96x88 turbine wheel with 1.32ar t6 housing |
Intercooler looks nice, what size core is that? And what does one of those run? |
|
From the builder, Ron Shearer, Shearer Fabrication 1200hp Garrett core, 4.5" thick, 30" overall width. $1199 with VBands. |
Def some serious parts, should be a cool build |
Yeah, 7.99 (on paper) is my goal. |
Nice build, nice kitchen too - looks like you can do some serious cooking with that oven. Love the first gen Camaros. I passed up some opportunities to get one fairly inexpensively when I was a young man, regret that now. |

Couple questions.... ~What headgaskets (hoping someone would give the Athenas a shot with a sbe/ oem head build.) ? ~Will you share your basic tune approach to making this beast durable (timing relative to boost) ? ~How do you plan on zero decking a sbe ? ~Considering softening the chamber ?? (super cheap and worth it's weight while dealing with a detonation sensitive build. Tooley did mine...and wow made a difference with sensitivity to detonation or I should say lack there of). ~Didn't see anything mentioned about rear suspension setup (maybe I overlooked it) ~With those lofty rpm goals, what is the game plan with the valve train (lifter, valve weight, springs, rockers) ?? Definitely a cool build... . |

I'm tempted to check the ring gaps though. -Softening the chamber, not familar. I will research. -This car has full tubs and ladder bars. It needs newer and better rear shocks. -LS7 lifters, stock 799 valves, BTR .660 springs, stock rockers. SBE baby. Eventually a nicer shortblock.... |
