Default Twin Holset kit for L33 which models for under 600 hp

im building a L33 with 317 heads with a hardened t5 for a rod project,

or it might end up going in an early Camaro.

im not into overkill drag racing BIG power,
I want streetability, sort of Clark Kent docile, til I want FAST spooling coming out of the phone booth and I like Holsets, not cheap chinese crap. anyone know if the smaller industrial holsets would be suitable like a pair of hx25's or t3 flanged hx30's. mounted on early c5 manifolds flipped upside down.

Why do weird ****. T4 turbos from vs racing are cheap af and will make that power. If 600 is all you will ever want the gt 69mm wheel will get you right there with the fastest spool. A 7565 will give you a little room for growth and a 7875 will give you plenty of room for growth when you want to turn it up. Which every guy does eventually.

I wouldn't consider them Chinese crap as they have a solid rep for being a good turbo and reliable. Lots of guys use them on the forums with good resilts

If holset is your only choice then just do hx35s. They will light off quick and you will have room to grow if you decide in the future. Just keep the boost lower and you could do 600 easy all day long.

You can get a pair of GT35's for around $500. Will work much better than a Holset.

why on earth would you get rid of 243s in favor of 317s on a 5.3?

317's are known for being the workhorse best choice for turbo builds

if you are conditioned to make sure you pal as litttle as possible so you can cover your video game, cable tv , 50 "big screen, fantasy football gambling , and of course those great Toy Phone (oh Boy ~ I just Lovve my damn toy Phone!!!!) Overage fee's....
you are typical.

the thread is about a twin system, the truck manofolds with v band ends and peculiar piping routing to some Chinese piece of crap mounted in front of the water pump,, going straight into the front. Now THAT's some weird Shiite.

I know we are light yrs ahead now as far as having Knock and detonation concerns now, but I notice I can get two pair of 317's for the price of one set of used 243's 0r 799's they are the same in port design-and everything else -just have the bigger chambers, and lower comp--the choice lots make for turbo builds,
is the high'r comp ratio the 243's have = detonation not an issue at all with the typical ls builds now?

Holsets are known in other parts of the world--Europe and AU as being to go to choice for great equipment, America is spoiled with cheap crap coming across the pacific

If this place has turned the same way as pro touring and the others, and the only thing members can do is tow the line and go along with the heard (for protecting the venders bread and butter CC t4 gt35's) then someone please send me a PM about being a good sheep here, and ill keep my open mindedness censored.

thanks for this reply, Uh where is the oil feed line port on these engine's and do twin kits just run a t from that port?

I know the vendors make LOTSa money on custom turbine housings and alternate compressor wheels, and theres plenty of extra bits for the hx35, probably not for the hx30.

9. HX35: One Tough Customer

The Holset HX35 found on ’94-’98 12-valve engines is one of the toughest factory turbochargers we’ve ever come across. Even though it was designed to see 20 psi of boost in the 5.9L Cummins’ application, it doesn’t seem to be out of its efficiency range at double the boost. While making 35 to 40 psi (courtesy of a disabled wastegate), the HX35 not only yields more power, but lower exhaust gas temperature (EGT) as well. And with a larger (14cm) or modified (ported) factory 12cm exhaust housing, exhaust flow increases, drive pressure drops and the HX35 can support 450 rwhp — not bad considering these engines start out with 160 to 215 hp at the crank, depending on the model.

the boost these make , im thinking a pair of these is overkill.

I think the 317s comment was because an l33 should have came with 243s from the factory so why would you change them. Maybe you started with a short block who knows. But i come from the diesel side of things where hx35s are easy to come by and cheap so why not just go for those straight out of the gate. They dont have to run big boost just keep the boost lower and u wont exceed ur 600 goal. Less boost is less strain on the engine

I have two Super HX40 on my totally stock LM7. Twin HX35 should work really good for your goals

If you trust name brand turbos more than "chinese crap" then buy a pair of turbonetics tc78s or 7875s. Better yet, buy the on3/vs racing/chinese 7875 as they are made with the exact same parts in the same facility as the turbonetics 7875 (according to older threads on here).

Or a pair of borg warner s366s.

This is one angry op. Wants to talk about cheap **** then runs a stock 5.3 lol. I've got a fully forged 370 bud so don't preach about me about cheap ****. I'd bet my rotating assembly cost more than your entire engine and turbo set up. I'm about not wasting money as it's been said most of this **** is made in the same factory. Run what you want but it's clear you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground on this platform. No one serious is running twin diesel truck turbos on stock used pull out engines.

The cummins 5.9 for many years has/was (Don't know if FIAT changed that) been built offshore by Mitsubishi , shipped to Mexico(NAFTA) with the heads off and then shipped in to the US, the head gets bolted on and POOF its American made.

Holsets are a solid product, nothing wrong with the choice its your money. I am more focused
on the construction, than the brand for the most part, I want a ball bearing center, water cooled center and a decent attachment layout. (t3/t4). I also like rotating housings if I can so I can adjust it to fit easier (Nice to have) Prefer no inboard waste gate... after that its $$ per $$..

Good luck.. it will be fun !

idk where you get this info but i can assure you they were not built by mitsubishi. I have toured their engine plant and watched them being assembled. Cummins is in no way associated with Fiat/Chrysler other than their engines in the ram trucks.
