Whats the best bang for buck turbo these days?

Looking for more jam than the GT45 ebay, but not willing to splurge S480 prices. What say you all?

vs racing 75 or 78 seems to be super popular.

svslow 09-19-2017 11:32 AM

Can get a Billet 7875 for less than 550 from VS

We will see what we can make with it here soon

cam 09-19-2017 03:16 PM

Hmm s475 might be the way. I prefer the T6 flange for upgrade potential. Forgot about VS i remember the orange tt sbe that ran 8's with twin VS t4's

Wasn't there a budget 88 too?

sbcgenII 09-19-2017 03:21 PM

How much power and how fast are you trying to go?

Vs racing 80mm is $789. Cast s475 is $650.

I was planning on the batmo S48x T6 and chase the sbe record but now? Meh, cheap is good haha

Might as well go cheap because you are going to need a GT55 or 2 Borgs for the SBE record.

cam 09-19-2017 03:38 PM

Yes well this plan was a from a few years ago when this was the quickest one below. I concede I shall not be the fastest anymore so im looking for the best smile per mile factor doubled down with the best bang for buck as well. I have most of the parts minus the head unit and fuel pump. This might be the winter, but theres this boat I like....

You realize that was a 4-second car right?

cam 09-19-2017 10:17 PM

Yep sure do. That car set a lot of us dreamers back a while. It wasn't built when I started mine. The fastest I can recall at the start of it all was Mayhems car. This one caught a lot of attention. BW76r

I'm thinking of the VS billet 7875 T4 for my set up

cam 09-20-2017 07:42 PM

I like the S475, I checked pricing and its not bad at all with T4. Anyone know how the VS Billet 7875 stacks up against it?

forcd ind 09-21-2017 06:43 AM

The S475 in a T4 is like $200 more than a T6-I had a T4 and really liked it,
If the T4 was closer to the T6 I would get another, but trying to stay in a budget, lol

cam 09-21-2017 07:42 AM

Are you saying the 475 T6 is cheaper than the T4? I didnt spend much time searching but found the opposite to be true. T6 is what I want ideally for upgrade potential so I only have to do the hotside once.

MY_2K_Z 09-21-2017 10:22 AM

The t6 s475 is definitely cheaper than the t4, if you found somewhere with the t4 for cheap post it up.

Yes, the T6 is a "box stock" diesel turbo from BW. That's why it's so cheap, mass produced. The T4 version is made from it so there is the additional cost of machining a t4 turbine housing to fit the stock t6 turbo.

cam 09-21-2017 10:26 AM

Curious why anyone would want a T4 over a T6? The T6 1.32AR is the way to go imo. The dia of the dual gate T6 is 2 1/4" iirc so a properly prepped hotside and you only have to step the exh down once. This makes the turbine be the only restriction and doubly get as much heat expansion in the turbine as possible. Velocity losses from T6 vs T4 are made up with higher RPM
