are all lm4's oddball? well I picked up a 2004 lm4 to build for the nova and get some weight off the nose and just have fun. picked one up cheap at a boneyard out of a wrecked rainier. well I noticed it had the 13mm valley and exaust bolts so I figured a good rod engine. but no it has gen 3 rods. it has all the tell tale signs of gen 4 rods it even has equal length head bolts and siamise bores. anyone else run into this? I think I'm going to open the rings and run the hell out of it like it sits with my 220/230 Bennett cam. |
Equal length head bolts started WAY before the onset of Gen IV engines. Gen IV rods started a couple years after the bolt change. |
Nearly all 04s had 13mm bolts, but not all 04s had gen 4 rods. I don't think any of the LM4s ended up getting Gen 4 rods. Even the 04s. At least, I've never heard of one. |

LM4, the early aluminum 5.3 they put in SUVs, not LR4. |
haven't seen many but I thought all 13 mm valley and exaust engines were considered to have better rods. |
