What are some good Boost Controllers these days....2018

It's getting close for me to be installing my single Huron Speed Turbo kit in my car, gathering parts, tearing my car apart, etc.

What Electronic Boost Controllers are people using these days? I like the Turbosmart E-Boost 2 but it won't fit into my current 2 gauge pillar pod since it's a 66mm unit. Can you even get a pillar pod that accepts 66mm gauges?

My car is mainly a street car, might go to track once a year. I would like to have the ability of having 3 different boost levels. Say 7.5, 11, 15 PSI

What are you guys using, pros, cons?

Thx...

I have the boost/pulse combo, I love it.

Boost/Pulse Combo?

Yes, this will be for a 2001 Camaro SS M6

Game ova - I'd love to put it there but I already have my Fan switch, Bass control knob and cut out switch there.

Cutout switch in the ashtray, fan switch by the trunk release. Get creative with the bass knob. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...aacbb4f8b5.jpg

The eboost 2 fits in a regular A pillar gauge pod, you just have to dremel the opening bigger. It still looks and fits fine.

Because not everyone wants to deal with swapping to an aftermarket ECU.

I did think of that but It's not even close. My current gauge pod is about 14 years old, not sure of brand. 66mm on the Turbosmart is bigger than the OD of my pod.

Do the current gauge pillar pods for sale now days have bigger openings or just larger in general?

Im not sure if the newer pods are bigger, but I was able to dremel out my opening so I would assume so. I do think I had to use the bottom pillar opening because the other 2 were smaller and wouldn't fit.

Almost $600 for an Turbosmart E-Boost 2? Does it even do true progressive boost? Boost by speed? Boost by RPM?

Seems ridiculous to me! You can buy an MS1,2,3 ECU for that. With better boost control features... and program it to do 20 other things.

Just my take.

It kinda does, but it's a pita to navigate and set up.

Lance, add automatic transmission control and I'll be your next order!

Most guys here will still use the factory ecu though.

Whilst I havent used it, on paper this looks to be about the best value/versatile out there.

There are ecu's already out there that can control auto trans and boost ( which as Lance says, boost control is one of many standard features )

true, but have you looked at the pantera efi/Lance's product. lots of features, good GUI, robust and compact enclosure, very competitive pricepoint. Just needs to control an 80e and it'd be hard to beat.

wow, that looks amazing. thats miles ahead of the eboost 2 as far as GUI and # of set points

stevieturbo 02-12-2018 05:58 PM

EBoost2 is very good....but certainly not the most user friendly in many ways. But I guess that's to be expected with no proper head unit or buttons etc to make it easy.

I've used many controllers over the years...but nothing I've seen compares to the above one for features vs value for money

Although it has been a long time since I've used a standalone, simply because any cars I work at always have aftermarket ecus.

But there are loads of others, Plex, HKS, Blitz, Greddy, Gizmo etc etc and they do all make very good products. But often expensive, and still lacking in some respects.

I think that most people that have the typical street driven car, don't care to get into aftermarket ecu. From what I've seen, it's more for the racecar market. Most guys here just want to go fast on the cheap, and the factory computer is more than capable.... without all if the bells and whistles. No racecar dash... or none of the other complications wanted.

stevieturbo 02-13-2018 03:55 AM

There are only complications if you make them, and the "bells and whistles" are basics IMO, especially when it's a boosted motor you're talking about.

You dont need a racecar dash unless you want a racecar dash.

But yes, the stock ecu can run the engine just fine in many cases.
