Apparently I'm retarded! Can't control boost???

I'm a little confused as to why there is so many different plumbing options when I do a search on a manual boost controller.... I had a 8psi spring in a 44mm gate.... Hooked it up according to one diagram and it made double the spring pressure.... Hooked it up another way and made 8psi but regardless of how many turns I give the controller, it won't effect the amount of boost I make.... Someone shed some light on this for me! Thank you

An explanation of how you have it hooked up and which boost controller you used would help...

I just have a simple manual boost controller, nothing fancy... I've tried 2 different controllers and 3 different schematics with the same results that I posted in my 1st post.... Right now I believe I'm using the routing that turbosmart suggests..... I made 19psi on a 13psi spring tonight trying different schematics

The diagram you have is how I hook mine up.

That is a piss poor boost controller. A $15 ebay special would work better. Also, if that one has no bleed hole in it, then you have to install a T on the line going from compressor to wastegate and then T off to the boost controller instead of putting it inline.

I had a cheaper eBay one, I bought this cause it had better reviews to try and rule out the controller itself.... This controller has a bleed hole on.the side of it so I shouldn't need a tee correct?

The boost line on top hinders the valve opening, more boost, boost line lower helps the valve opening, less boost.

JoeNova Mar 30, 2018 09:09 PM

As long as it needs a bleed hole, you don't need to put it on a T.

Have you hooked a vaccum line straight from the compressor to the gate to see how much boost it makes?

It makes 11-12psi, which makes sense cause it's a 13psi spring

Just a slight difference in the above pic, your bboost reference is to the intake manifold, not the turbo compressor......

PS....19 psi FTW

truckdoug Mar 31, 2018 09:46 AM

you're lucky you didn't blow the welds on the intake

Yea blowing tires off at 70mph was interesting lol

Me and the mad scientist would have had to tear apart the block and replace the piston rings we fried

truckdoug Mar 31, 2018 11:49 AM

i've been having some boost control issues as well lol

Yea 19psi on a SBE and pump gas wasn't my goal lol

hey dont feel bad. i cant get my shit to calm down either and i'm using a $500 EBC.

got the 2 step workin tho :))))

What electronic controller are you using to where it still won't control boost reliably?

truckdoug Mar 31, 2018 10:09 PM

e boost 2. its not the controller's fault. embarrassingly enough it was several mistakes. first I had the wrong spring and the gate wouldnt open all the way as it was binding. second I never tested on just spring to get my gate pressure set right. third I mixed up my line to the solenoid.

^^^lmao...thats a classic

So I think I've narrowed it down to a waste gate leak....
1st red flag
Does this what I'm assuming is called a diaphragm is suppose to look like?
2nd red flag
I hooked up an airline to the inlet port and I could hear air pouring out of the area where the rod goes into the waste gate that has the exhaust valve looking thing on one end.... I'm guessing there's not supposed to be air escaping here??

yeah all my china gates have pissed air out of the bottom past the valve guide. i dont think it's that big of a deal.

looks like maybe it was pinched though or did it fold after you disassembled it?
