Holy Fack! Anyone know any more details on the car? Turbo set up, computer/tuning, etc? It looks like it leaves soft(relative to that 7sec et) than the boost just ramps in like a raped ape. That thing is nasty!!!

To the OP, my gen 3 rods have been up to 12psi or about 600hp at the crank with no issues. The big difference between the rods is rpm, gen 3 are safe to 6500ish and gen 4 higher from what I’ve read.
Turn it down to BDC. You should be able to see the outside of the piston where the pin goes in. Pressed fit pistons will be perfectly round here, floating pin will have groove for the retainer clip.

You just said you had gen 4 rods, now they're gen 3?

ok. I already buttoned up the bottom end but I’ll look through my pics and see what I can see.

I have two 5.3s. One is a 99 and it’s clearly gen 3 with gen 3 rods. Been up to 6000-6500 and 12psi and no issues. Stock short block and didn’t even gap the rings. My second 5.3 was said to be a 2003 but it has the gen 4 rods (not sure about pistons) which is what I’m building now.

I was under the impression that you can't have Gen 4 rods without Gen 4 pistons

Ive parted out a bunch of motors and seen two sets. One I sold here and the other is in my NA truck. Always out of 2003 trucks.

Wierd. Ws6store told me the same thing. My late 03 ls6 motor was hilarious cause it had gen 3 pistons and rods but all short head bolts lol

600whp isn’t that bad. You’ll be fine as long as the tune is safe and u don’t pop a piston. Gen 3 and 4 are the same essentially, one has pressed pins which have there pos and negs and 4th gens had floating pistons which has pros and cons. I wouldn’t be worried about the pistons... it’s the rods where the strength comes from.

yea my 2003 has 4the gen rods, no idea about pistons but also has the 99-04 head bolts that are the $$ compared to all the same length. Happy about the rods tho! Not so happy about the castec 706 heads lol.

I bought flat top pistons for my Gen 3 5.3.
It turns out that they are Gen 4 pistons and required machining or Gen 4 rods...
Since, I bought Gen 4 rods and everything is fine.
