I can dig the point you are making. But check this out, next time you are at the track...or checking out some videos on YouTube, and a guy is talking about his car, when he gets to talking about the transmission..pay close attention to what he says is in it. Nearly every fast Turbo buick, Supra, camaro,....anything making real power, you will almost always find a 400 in their transmission tunnel. There is not a man on earth, who has ever taken a 400/4l80 and decided to go to the next level by replacing either one of those with a 4l60. And yes, I know you were just clowning around earlier.... but the 400 is tried and true, one of the toughest transmissions ever created. No special valves, no rituals needed with a 400

With that said if this 4l60e craps out I will most likely be considering the th400 or 4l80e for the next one. I just liked the simplicity of sticking with a built 4l60e as long as I can rather than deal with swapping to a 4l80e at this time. Eventually I know it's coming, but I also know long term a straight rear axle and mini tubs are coming as well.
But at this point in time I don't want to deal with making the switch and I'm having fun learning to rebuild.
I'm probably a bit stubborn also but at my power level I do think I can make this 4l60e live for quite a while.

While we are talking transmissions, let me say this. I firmly believe that it's torque.... not so much horsepower that will kill a transmission. Take a transmission that's good for 400 crank horsepower and it may live just fine in an f body, put it behind a 24 valve Cummins with the same 400 crank horsepower....probably won't live a week.

this is where I'm at. If I did not build my own transmissions and I was paying full rebuild costs from a shop there absolutely would be a 4l80e under my car right now.

Adjustable shocks up front, v6 springs in the rear, adjustable lca...panhard bar. That's it really. That place require you to bring them all the parts?

Aftermarket torque arm of some sort would help you, and that stock TA may have had something to do with your pinon yoke letting go if the stock TA was flexing enough.
Not exactly sure, I had one that was done up in another car by another shop in Texas. I always hear you can have $1300-1500 in one thru TNT all parts out the door though.

Great runs and very impressed by the numbers you and the TA are putting down. I've got to try to get up there to BB soon and do some test passes. Hopefully it would work out that some of you guys are there when I make it.

I'm down for whatever, I'm sure the owner of the TA is as well. I'm going to be back to make another couple of hits before SCT, after that... I'm done till the rear end is installed. If we happen to be there at the same time, we can line em up. What's the rundown on your ride?

3 year build just getting back on the road. 2001 Camaro with a Thompson 370 and twin turbo set up. Making great power but manual transmission and I've never driven anything like this at the track. So I'll be looking to learn from other Fbody owners and try to get better... and just have some fun with it. I was down at the BA shop the day after the TA ran the 9 second pass and hope to make it up with them the next time they make a run up there. The last time I ran it at Beech Bend was at a track rental and it was cam only on street tires running 12.4's.

Yeah, the conversion is definitely in my future if I get more serious about racing. I knew that going in and I'm sure I will be giving up at least a full second with the manual, but I built the car as a fun street car to cruise around in and go to the track a few times a year. As with most projects I ended up taking it much further than originally intended. I don't really know Jed well, but we know some of the same people and the guys at Boost Addicts have been a huge help in getting me across the finish line on the project.
