what's the limit of my fuel system? C5 Z06 here, So my current fuel system is stock intank, and single Bosch 044 external on a switch, ID1300s, E85 car. T's in before the rail, pretty much a copy of the A&A type fuel kits. Modified stock fuel rail to with a 6AN where the shrader was, to FPR, then return back to tank via using stock lines and 1997 style fuel filter. I'm don't have dyno numbers, but I've gone 138mph in the 1/4 with the setup on E85 @ 3300lbs, so whatever hp that is New goal is to go 150s, at what point do I have to upgrade the rails. and how much more fuel flow would I need to get there. looks like the bosch 044 flow about 260-300lph at 4bar, I'm thinking about replacing the stock intank, with a 450, and let it ride. another option is replace the 044 with a Magnafuel 4303, thoughts :corn: https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7406/9...5531f146_c.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2869/9...8da638a4_c.jpg |
Going from 138 to 150’s is a big power jump. Gonna need more pump for sure. Surprised the stock intank pump has lasted. The 450 is a great idea. Doing a bigger external isn’t a bad idea either. You can get some Holley LS rails and bigger lines. All of that will help. |

There goes the neighborhood! DSM guys are showing up! ;) Factory rails are fine IMO. Been 160+ on them @ 3100lbs Buddies been 172... @ 3300lbs. Both on E70ish. 4303 is a great pump, it’s what I run. (they are loud bastards though) With a 450 in parallel you should be fine and could kick on the 4303 in boost. Could also do dual AEM 380’s instead of a 4303. They are cheaper and on paper would pump more fuel than a 4303. (not sure they are as robust of a pump though) I have an AEM380 on one of my cars and its makes all kinds of odd noises at random times. So far it’s always held up but I’ve only got 3k on it or so. (also blast it with 18v). Have you considered a surge tank setup? You could fill it with your current factory pump so you wouldn’t need to replace it. Then run 2 AEM 380’s or a 4303 off the surge tank to the rail. You can run the return and regulator right off the surge tank and have a single -8 up to the front with no return. |
A Nuke or Radium setup with a pair of 450's would give you ample on ethanol and be quite neat and compact vs external inline pumps. thanks for the info, I'll let the rails ride for now them, i'm def not against running a surge setup. just don't know where i'm mount it on a C5 chassis, as I don't have an enclosed trunk per say. I'll look around for ideas. |
The ones I linked to are pretty compact, bound to be room somewhere on the vehicle. People manage to fit turbos and all sorts front or rear, so there has to be room for a little surge tank, and again keeping in-tank pumps makes it all much more compact. Or if range wasnt an issue, perhaps lose one side of the dual tank setup and fabricate a custom tank instead ? Or retain 2 tanks, and again fab a custom primary tank with inbuilt surge tank |
Thinking on it a bit running an in tank 450 with some sort of booster would probably be better. It would be nice and quiet with the single in tank pump, then have the booster pump(s) kick on when needed. |

I'm going to do a 450 intank in parallel with my bosch 044, and see where it takes me. theoretically that should supply about 1200fwhp from what i calculated. I'm upgrade the external if that theory becomes a myth. seems to be the path of least resistance also. this is an a/c street car with leather and full exhaust. only non intrusive place I can think of for a surge is within the rear bumper. I'll bust out the measuring tape |
