New mods and results for Detoxx with the D1X

Recently had a few things done to the car in preparation for a half mile event back in September. With that being the plan I had the car shipped down to Futral Motorsports for the mods I wanted to do. The original plan was just to swap to ARH 2 long tubes, ProCharger race IC, change my 5th and 6th gear trans ratios to ZR1 ratios, and have it tuned on Ignite red 114. Well things changed once RPM opened up my transmission. So the new mods are as follows:

ProCharger Race IC
ARH 2” headers
ID1700X’s
Mighty Mouse race can
Holley LS valve covers
RPM level VI trans w/ ZR1 5th and 6th gear ratios

So previous numbers for the car were 932/755 on 19psi and ethanol content was 73%.

Baseline pull before the mods were done it did 928/763. Remember this was Sept in Louisiana so shop temps were in the 100’s vs 80’s when the previous high was put down.

After mods it did 938/770 on the pump e85.

949/776 by just pouring in some ignite red 114.

953/776 by adding 1 degree.

972/792 after a few more tweaks.

After completion it did 980/797 on 21.5psi and 83% ethanol content.

Total timing at 17* btw. We could do more but it’s still SBE and we are already pushing it like crazy.
I’m sure with timing in the 19-21 with that badass fuel it would easily be in the 1000’s but I’m happy where it’s at.

Not only was I stoked with the new numbers but once I drove it to feel how amazing the trans felt. I never had major trans issues previously except for the occasional lockout of 3rd on a hard shift. After the upgrades RPM did however I wish I would have upgraded it years ago. Drives and shifts so smooth.

The new power is awesome and the increase in midrange feels amazing. Not bad for a little ole D1X headunit.

I swapped injectors for future upgrade purposes. I don’t see myself going to a bigger blower but I do have a smaller pulley for this one that will come in handy if I ever need it.

I love the new catch can setup. I previously had a monster RX can. It did its job but it didn’t fit in the engine bay so I had it mounted by the radiator cradle. I like this the MM setup mounts and its functionality. Not to mentions Dave’s customer service.

Headers for great and even give it a different tone. Nothing crazy but I notice it.

Forgot to mention the increase in psi was from a new air filter. Not pulley swaps or anything funny just a brand new clean filter. Old one lost boost. We cleaned it and it picked back up where it used to be and then when the new one was put on it gained boost.

Last but not least the intercooler. It’s a big one but it does it’s job. Dropped iat’s from 112 at the end of the pull previously and now it’s at 99.

All in all I’m very happy with this car and setup. Always have been. I try to keep it as simple as possible. It’s winter now so I’ll go grab some 1/4 mile traps in the spring and try the half mile’s again as well since we didn’t get to run that day. Other than that it performs great on the street when I run people. The LS3 is still going strong.

This wasn’t meant to be this long but I tried to share as much info as possible.

What does your fuel system consist of?

Fore Innovations kit with triple AEM 50-1200’s, -10 and -8 lines, dsx flex fuel kit, holley rails, and ID1700X’s are the basics.

Negative, that 4hp and 0tq gain is screaming that extra degree doesnt need to be there. Any competent tuner would have taken that degree back out. Glad your happy with it but dont expect big gains from running any higher timing, your plugs and bearings will thank you.

Honestly the fuel doesnt even seem that great, 11hp/6tq gain from a $100 fillup isnt a very good bang for the buck.

Did you purposely leave out the other info or missed it?

I’d say he’s pretty competent to keep a boosted SBE LS3 alive for 7 years now that gets beat on.

awesome to see you pushing that d1x that hard. It makes my decison to upgrade to a d1x over buying a new f series blower all set . I cant wait to get my forged ls3 in my car and make some noise . Keep up the beatings and lets see some more racing videos .

that tune HAS to be on point for that motor to still be going....which I'd say it is

Its a badass little blower. When will yours be done?

40K boosted miles

I agree the tuner must be good, but slow sedans point is still valid about the extra degree of timing. It's just putting you closer to the knock threshold for a negligible gain. He obviously made some other tweaks though because the final numbers we're up another 20 or so over the extra degree so guessing he changed the commanded AFR.

Just for clarification, was that a stock trans to begin with and did it last 40K without being opened up until the current upgrades? Thanks.

Didn't miss it, just wasn't pertinent to my point. Keeping Gen4 SBE together isn't terribly hard as long as your not tuning it with a sledgehammer.

Yup, if a degree of timing doesn't give 20hp or pickup MPH then it simply doesn't need to be there. You are never going to feel 4hp in a 900hp car so its worthless and like you said closer to knock threshold for no reason. I would always rather add boost then timing especially on a SBE.

If you look towards the end they raised boost 1.5PSI. So with larger headers, better IC, fancy fuel, 1.5PSI, and a degree of timing he gained 52hp/34tq. 11 of which was from fuel alone. So your down to 41hp from the headers, boost, tune, etc.. 1.5lbs of boost should gain 30hp unless the D1X is just out of steam which is probably is at this point so the tuner was looking for a gain elsewhere to make the tune worth it. I get it people want results but sometimes they aren't that stellar.

Pretty amazing results for both the small blower and the stock bottom end. Makes me feel good that I can get to my goal of 750 with a forged 6.0 through an auto pretty easily.

I tuned mine at the track on only 10 psi I gained one mph trap in the 1/8th for each degree of timing added. I stopped at 17 on E85.

Yes stock trans. For clarification the car has 80K miles 40 have been boosted.

I get what you are saying but I’m basically alluding to that while it’s not a conservative tune it’s not super aggressive either. He can push it more and one day we will but this was just to see what these little mods would gain. Everything I do is in preparation for something else.

It is nice to see what the little blower will do, we usually skip straight to F1 or turbo. SBE are stronger then people give them credit for, I couldn't bend a rod under 30PSI and even then the pistons looked perfect.

Sorry if I missed it...Is this also on stock heads, head bolts, and gaskets?

How much boost did you run before you switched to arp bolts?

i wanna say like 17.5psi. When it did them however I wasn’t having any issue but did it as a precaution.

Damn 21 psi on four bolt heads is getting my wheels turning again! Damn these threads...
