HYBRID THEORY! Gen 4/5 LT1, LT4 and LS engine compatibility Thought this would pertain to the boosted guys, so I put it in this section. Put this video together to show that the stock GEN V LT1 crank and LT4 rods can work in a GEN 3/4 block. |
Nice. Will watch later! Andrew |
Not watching a half hour video... Why would you want the LT internals? LT stuff appears to be weaker then the Gen 4 internals judging from all the blown up LT engines I see at relatively low power. LT1 is good for what 750 maybe 800 for a little while, and LT4 is about done at 1000 some hang on for a few months at 1100. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but maybe I'm missing something as Gen 4 internals don't seem to give a shit about 1000hp for a few years and are significantly cheaper. |
Watches video and jumps on eBay and starts shopping... |

Mostly because I'm a cheap fuck and wanted to find an upgrade over Gen 4 LS parts on the cheap, the rods were $180 and I think are comparable to a Callies I beam and the crank is factory forged that I paid $75 plus shipping for, I have no Idea how strong the LT blocks are, but it doesn't matter since I'm using a Aluminum 5.3 block anyways, |
It will have btr prepped trick flow 220's |
Does this affect flywheel/flexplate? |
Sort of. The LT1 stuff is 8 bolt like a LSA. Internally balanced like most everything else though so no drama there like a SBC 400 back in the day if that's your concern. |
thank you very much, I learned a bunch! |
I can tell you a Gen 5 (L83) truck starter will bolt onto an LS, cranks pretty slowly though. |
A set of junkyard dog pistons and youd have what seems to be a very solid rotator. |
Great info, I've collected the same parts but haven't had time to confirm what you just did. You plan on using a stock lt1 harmonic balancer? |
havent watched yet but i heard the issue with LT4s is that red coating you see for the main bearings starts to peel at high power levels and wipes out the bearings and thats why they explode.. my buddys shop has a customer wanting 1000 from his 17 zl1 with a procharger.. they are replacing the rods for this reason.. |

could you use just the rods on an LS crank? |
^^^^^^was wondering the same thing^^^^^^ |
