Default Jeep Comanche 5.3 TwinTurbo

Hey Guys,

I'm Chris from Austria/Europe, i build already an LQ4 in my 79 Suburban and now i have a new Project, bought an 88 Comanche Dragster with a Powerglide in it. Its hard to find V8 Engines here in Europe but now i found a 5.3 1000kms away.
I want to build the 5.3 with a ebay twinturbo kit. (tight budget because of building a house) Here in Europe there is not much knowledge about building or tuning this engines so i need your help.
  • Can i use the original harness? Fan, Fuel Pump, Starter will be switched seperatly so acc. my understanding it just needs "Ignition ON" Signal?
  • What does the Motor need at minum for Turbo Operation? Valve Springs? Injectors?
  • What Converter should i use? Do i need different flexplate?
Thanks in advance for your help.

What year is the 5.3?
Minimum would be injectors and springs, yes.
A custom converter will fit the stock 5.3 flexplate.

Converter will depend on a few things. You say twin turbos but what size are they (compressor and turbine). What will be the purpose of the vehicle? Drag racing or just spirited driving? Will you be changing the cam too? The best way to determine the proper torque converter is to build the engine, find what gears you're going to run, be realistic in how you'll drive the car. After all that, contact someone from some of the great torque converter companies (PTC, Precision, Yank, etc) and tell them about your engine, turbo size, intended PSI on them, gearing, weight, transmission, and driving style. They'll be better equipped to relay a good approximation of the stall needed.

Hy Mightyquick,

i think i'll go with this Turbo Kit: https://www.ebay.de/itm/LSx-1000HP-C...53.m1438.l2649
I know its cheap China **** but the budget is tight and the delivery costs and import taxes are crazy here in austira, they will double the price sometimes on parts.

It just a build for quarter mile it will never see usual street mode again :-) I will try to find out the gearing of the powerglide and the rear axle and post them here.

The Powerglide is 1.80, the rear axle a 12 bolt chevy, i have to check the gear ratio of the axle if this is important.
I do not plan to change the cam now, but maybe later when the budget is back i will buy a complete cam kit.

Searched now a little for Converter issues, so acc. my infos the Crank is 0,4" shorter than the GEN1 Sbc's, so i can use this spacer with longer bolts?: https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...3532/overview/
And will fit the 3 bolt pattern from a PG Converter then on the original 5.3 flexplate?

I'm right here in south-west Germany and had a built LSA with 1155rwp. I now have an LSX with a little more power. Hit me up if you need parts maybe we can work something out.

Yes when it finally runs it hopefully makes fun
But i'm going away from the twinturbo setup cause it way more complicated and expensive, i will now go with a GT45, does anyone has expierience with a 5.3 and a GT45?
