Frozen boost type 12 intercooler I planned on getting a Chiseled but came across a Frozen Boost type 12 for price I couldn't say no to. Is it worth opening up the 3/4" water inlets and giving the type 12 a shot or sell it and go with chiseled? motor is just budget L33 with good pistons, LJMS cam, studded, billet BW 480 and BS3 ECM. |
I use a little type 17 with giant 1.25 id hoses and fittings and a Chiseled 7-gallon tank. Works great for me. I think for the price the 12 is supposed to be really good. |
Does going bigger on the water ports and fittings on these really gain that much? First I've heard of it. |

from what I learned a higher end cooler like chiseled has a more efficient core like a bell or a garret and can use a 1" id line on the 1k or 2k hp models. On the cheaper coolers like the type 12 the cores are not as efficient coupled with fact they only have fittings for 3/4" id lines. Opening up fittings for 1 1/4" id lines help the cooler be more efficient. read some people see a 20-50 drop in IAT with bigger lines |
I ran 7.5@182 with the type 12. I didnt drill the holes out but I did weld a 1" nipple fitting the threads. 1" id clear home depot hose. 5 gallon ice tank with rule 2,000. It would start at 70 degrees on the line and rise to 130 iat at the end of the 1/4. Typically used half ice and water. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...46986a07c7.jpg |

That bung that's 3/4 npt that frozen boost put on is pretty think I may to find an 1 1/8 or 1/4 nipple that will fit or just do same as you. BTW I asked in a PM but didn't here back. You guys tune BS3 at your shop in Gaylord? |
