Quick question (Blow off orientation)

Just wondering if this is enough angle for proper blow off function?
thanks

I wouldnt call tht a blowoff. Thts for the wastegate. Blowoff goes into the cold side.

I think it should work with the proper size wastgate. It would have been better with a Y off both banks to the wastegate. Basicly on the top side from were u mounted it in tht pic.

Sorry for the crappy illustration, but you’d be better here.

Sorry for the wrong terminology
it was a long day
I guess I could just weld a stainless cap over the hole where I messed up and do the small y pipe on top
it's all going to be wrapped any way
thanks for the help

I would give it a try like it is and see how it works for you. What do you want your lowest boost setting to be?

orange88ls1s-dime 01-08-2019 02:48 PM

Think the customer wants 18 minimum then be able to adjust to 25 as he tunes it

MY_2K_Z 01-08-2019 02:51 PM

That will be fine. Mine is exactly like that and I have no issues.

Honestly i agree with 3 window here. It looks like your still fabbing, fix it now to get the lowest boost possible instead of wishing you had later. Of its a street car 18 psi is going to be way to much to launch on. Getting traction is the hard part. Being able to turn it down enough to hook up becomes pretty important quickly and then you will be remaking it. But its just my opinion.

orange88ls1s-dime 01-08-2019 08:15 PM

Car ran 8.70s last year with 1069 to the tires
traction isn't an issue
the only reason it's at my shop is for weight reduction and tidying things up a bit
customer doesn't want to change it as he instructed me to put it there
I'll pay closer attention to advice if I ever get around to building a turbo car for myself.
thanks everyone for the input

It will be fine there

If the WG ports are in the Y as shown in the doodle, higher boost can push the gate open unless you push positive pressure to top of the gate.
Remember, it is there to bleed pressure and pressure just needs an exit point. Same principle for BOV and chasing boost leaks.
If your current setup fits, run it. My WG is a straight 90* just under the turbo flange and that's worked fine on 3 different setups.
