Twin turbo snowball build I don’t post much on here but I am on probably every day. I had some time at work today so I figured I would finally create a build thread. I bought a roller with the intention of going turbo for as cheap as possible. That plan quickly snowballed. I purchased an lq4 from a friend of a friend. Motor ended up being seized so I tore it down and sent it to the machine shop. I ended up forging the bottom end, porting the stock 317s, replacing the valves and springs, Edelbrock proflo intake, HPI 160lb injectors, twin walbro 450s with -8feed and -6return. LJMS stage 2 twin turbo cam, Huron speed twin turbo kit, twin VSR billet 78/75s, quick performance 9” with 35 spline moser axles, 325 gear with a full spool, Built Th400 3800 stall, and Viking double adjustable coilovers. I am running two 38mm tial wastegates and 1 50mm tial BOV. I was controlling boost through an eboost2 but had some issues with wiring and ended up pulling the harness/ecu and installing the Holley HP. I plan to turn the boost up and dial in the tune @ around 20lbs. I haven’t had a chance to make it to the track or dyno yet but I take it out on the weekends and leave from stops really fast. I am sure I am forgetting a bunch but enough of that… here are some of the pics that I could find https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...cbcd6cd918.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...ead81bb861.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...68ec8ca6e9.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...86f0d57209.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...6780aa551a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...819b99b9f4.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...23147c7d45.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...90dd72dd4a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...3c823e7c16.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...f6330a0eb5.jpg I just had a turbo seal go bad on me so instead of fixing/replacing the bad one, I took advantage of the deal that VS had going on and purchasing 2 billet 78/75s. Before everyone says they are too big blah blah, they spool damn near as quick as the 70s did. Its tuned fairly conservative on E85 and set at 13lbs of boost. I was surprised with how different the new 78s felt @ 13lbs compared to 13lbs with the 70’s. maybe its just my imagination. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...5191d58a4a.jpg |
1 more pic just becausehttps://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...7dfc7e6931.png |
looking good! we have a lot of the same parts I will do a build thread when I get it all back together this time "Snowball" |
Looks good. Nice combination, should run great. I’d say more power at the same boost with the new turbos. It’s air mass were after, not necessarily psi. |
Thanks. Yeah air mass makes sense |
Any pics on how you did ur turbo oil drains? |
I'm about to go out and change the oil. I'll snap some pics |
I used 2 90s on both sides of the timing cover then 2 -8 90s coming out to the turbos https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...0889bf5254.jpg |
Similar to the motion raceworks timing cover? I've read people having fitment issues draining there using the stock balancer. |
So some random guy makes a cool build and brags about it on the internet. NICE. When I finish my next build I plan to do the same exact thing. No kidding, it feels good to let anybody know shit worked out right. Also, the pics and info add to the general knowledge base. |
no problems with fitment. I actually just had an extra set of turbo drain fittings welded to the timing cover. Nit the prettiest but it works. |
Not quite sure how to take that but there were quite a few set backs. Wiring issues, transmission issues etc. It took a lot of patience but finally paid off when I felt the boost for the first time. This was my first turbo build and my first complete motor build.

I've got a similar parts list, waiting on my kit to arrive. What bore x stroke did you go with? What size AR on the turbos? |
stock stroke and only .005 or .010 over. I cant remember. Turbos are .96 AR. |

Ahhh ok. Well let's see... solid billet motor mounts wouldn't allow the steering linkage to clear the steering shaft. Ended up using some solid tubular from Spohn. The 4l80e trans harnes adapter from PCMofNC didnt work and I thought it was a trans issue so I swapped to a th400. After swapping, PCMof NC told me they had a bad batch of harnesses go out. WTF. I was scratching my head for a while trying to figure that out. I swapped injectors mid tune prior to swapping to the Holley system and pinched an oring which sprayed fuel on the hot side and had a small fire. That's when I decided to pull the harness and computer and go with the Holley. The only other thing was the fitment of the quick performance 9". The torque arm mount sits too high and hits the floor pan on big bumps. I tried to clearance the floor but no dice. |
THAT CAR LOOOOOKS SO MEAN! diggin it ! |
