Default M6 guys what do you have done to trannies?

I know that this is the 'wrong' section to be putting this in, but its hard to get much information over in the manual section.

I noticed that alot of the turbo guys were running manual trannies, I am putting the turbo kit on soon, alot of the guys around here had problems with the m6 with just heads and cam. So i was wondering what you all were doing to make the trannies last?

I have a viper tranny that I found pretty cheap that I was thinking about running. Im not sure if I want to keep the TH400

thanks alot

I'm running the stock T56 tranny with a B&M Ripper shifter(with the stops for 3rd and 4th adjusted as perscribed in the paperwork with the shifter) and a Spec Stage 4i clutch.

My tranny was actually blue printed 4 years ago and has stood the test of time and abuse

I had the synchro's replaced with carbon fiber, replaced the 1-2 shift fork with stainless steel and the tranny had a once over with all the gears reset. The tranny has performed flawlessly with more than 250 1/4 passes, autocross and daily driving with no breakage. The cost for the complete job including parts was $750 which I think was an excellent investment This year I am having it freshened and adding the 3-4 stainless shift fork. I know that having the tranny done has saved me big bucks in repairs and down time. I even had a lousy time for a while as an inwitting clutch tester and blew up five of them without any damage to the tranny.

The blue printing improved shifter feel, more like a slotted shifter now and eliminated mis-shifts. I have seen many lower HP cars with T56's spit them out because of a lack of forethought on the tranny.

Personally I think any big power car needs a good tranny and for the cost it was worth every penny.

At 630rwhp/580torque (supercharged) no trans problems.

At 774rwhp/774torque (single turbo setup), teeth were breaking on the input shaft gear and countershaft gear.

At the current 868rwhp/832 torque, it completely stripped all the teeth off of the input shaft gear and countershaft gear hitting it in 3rd.

My trans is currently at G-force getting their 1st through 4th gears, triple cone conversion, and 'viper' output shaft.

The slider keys are what breaks and causes a chain reaction. You can buy billet slider keys from g-force trannsmissions. The later tranny's have upgraded to carbon blocker rings rather than the paper style that they used to have. Not sure if that viper tanny is going to be a direct fit.Do your research.I know they have a diff input shaft so the clutch would have a diff spline and the drivshaft might be diff too.I would just have the slider keys upgraded to billet for the 3-4 shift. You will only need 3 slider keys , you already have the steel 3-4 shift fork if it's a viper tranny. The stock slider keys are the key weak point of the T56.

I'm not getting a "Viper tranny", the trans is getting a Viper output shaft, which will require a new slip yoke for the DS.

Slider keys did not fail in my trans, (though I do agree that the billet keys are a great upgrade). I was driving in 3rd gear, mashed the gas, and disentegrated the gearset.

If you find the 400 acceptable, then keep it. Otherwise prepare to repair.

only reason that I was saying about the viper tranny is because I was getting one out of an actual viper.

what do you mean by internal hydrolic?

69, im pretty sure a viper tranny will take alot of work to make fit, and also they have some sort of fance hydrolic set up insted of under hood mounting. Your probably better off to have one done up nice by someone.

that would make the price that 98zam listed 150 more which means the price you listed above is around 1150 less than what it says on the site
