So in general would a larger turbo spool in a more linear rate or would it be ...nothing...nothing... then all the boost?

Lol. It was dark when we got home. Damn daylight savings time. I'll be home from work, well before dark today.
Attached some shroud and crossover pics for now...(that was stock radiator at the time)

Obligatory VERY cold start on my E85 turd...

This is my 85, on my car.
It actually has aboit 1/4" clearance between radiator and turbo, but hard to capture with phone.

Did you slice the underside of the upper radiator support to clear pusher fans with it pushed that far forward?

No. Only modifications to that V6/LT1 were trimming and redrilling the 2 mounting bolt holes.
I originally still had all the plastic "ductwork" and windshield washer reservoir, but with the thicker rad, it actually runs cooler with those removed.

Do you run it all the time without a filter or just when you know you'll be making hits?

I always ran a filter on the 78/75, until it imploded, caved in, or whatever you call it. The 80 was run with nothing, and the 85 only has the Turbo Guard because it came with it. I've thought about using an AFE 5" inlet dry filter, but haven't driven it enough to worry about it.

OP you'll notice that rel3rd is running 3.70s vs your 3.25s roughly 14% more torque at the wheels - something to consider. Rel3rd , been waiting to hear about an 8 all summer , sorry to hear that you hurt it . Can't remember if you are sbe or what fastners/gaskets you were running, Don't want to highjack this thread , are you going to post about the problem? Logging at the time ?

Lol, my goals aren't quite as lofty at the moment. I actually just got the car back from the shop today. And just as I thought its fast but its not scaring me yet. I see some room for improvement already. The filter they used is tiny, 100% guarantee its a huge restriction. Its like half the size of the one in the Huronspeed kit. But back to topic, I was happy with highway rpm so mission accomplished with the gears. I just need to add horsepower.

if you're happy with the highway rpm then keep it that way , street cars are always a compromise . Just trying to make it easier for you to hit the 9s

I originally thought I gave the shop 3.00 gears but they were actually 2.75s. They balked, said I should be using 3.70s or 3.90s. I compromised. Heh heh

Plus I am on 25" street tires not something like a 28" slick so I have a little more "gear" that way and a whole lot less traction with all season tires at the moment. :/

This turbo intrigues me. Basically option #3 but with a smaller ar. I wonder how it would do against #2 option.

I'd stick with the current plan of a nice billet 7875 unit for now.
For a streetcar with a 4L80 that can down shift, it would serve you quite nicely in all areas.
As that turbo gets bigger and bigger, you start getting away from streetcar territory and into turbo lag and top end horsepower territory.
@rel3rd Do you think your merged hotside has something to do with spooling that 85?
I had a merged T4 on my last car with an old school T7875 from Turbonetics which probably wasn't the greatest but still made over 700whp but my current car is a divided T6 with an S484 and it comes online just as fast if not faster.
I really feel like there is some performance to be gained by going to a divided hotside, no real data, just seat of the pants feel.
Just my $.02

If you only want 9s - leave the cast 78/75 on and send it.
My combo is pretty similar to yours and easily runs 9s. But my car is sorted and does mid 1.3 60ft times - that helps a ton.
I wasn’t able to run my car this year but turned up it should be pretty deep in the 9s.

@rel3rd after moving fans around on radiator, it fit. I'll be damned
