All things being equal.....

on an FI car who would win, a car with 600rwhp and 500 torque or 500rwhp and 600 torque?

I am talking about in the quarter mile and if everything else about the cars were the same, tranny, weight, suspention, etc.

Ive always been told TQ wins races........................... lets see what other have to say........

Torque is what moves your car! More torque should equal faster if all else is equal.

torque corelates to e.t., so I'm gonna go with the 600 tq. That's why the auto guys get the good e.t.s and lower mph.

Torque it the force being applied to an object to move it. HP it the speed at which the torque is applied. So HP is nothing more then torque X RPM when related to engines. So with you question it would depend on how the cars were geared. (Even if the cars were geared the same.) Lower gears would see the HP car perform better because the motor would be at a high RPM using the HP, and high gears would see the torque car in front with lower RPMs using the torque. Its all in how things are tuned and setup. Your questions is kind of a "it depends" type question. I hope that helps.

I guess thats why you see a 1200h.p. 32ft lb Supra running 13's.....

the 600 HP car will win if the area under the TQ curve or the HP curve (it doesnt matter since they are directly related) through the RPM range used is greater compared to the other car. simple as that if we ignore all other variables.

Usually a higher peak HP car will have more area under the curve, it all depends on how peaky or flat each motor's powerband is.

Think about stock LT1 vs. LS1. The LT1 car might stay even or jump ahead thanks to its TQ, but the LS1 catches and passes it easily down the road thanks to the greater area under the curve.

heres how it is, torque is immediate power. horsepower is power over time... it would prolly be damn near dead even. i say tie.
