Default Phamspeed Turbo install part TWO,

That other post was too long eh??

Well I'm on the oil lines, got the pressure side all done and ran from the filter to the turbo.

I'm holding off on drilling the pan until I get some feedback on this part of the install. I was able to find a 90 deg elbow for the turbo's oil drain which helped A TON. I now routed the oil drain line over the crossover pipe and the line sits at a nice slope to the pan. The line runs to the top of the pan where I see most people tapping em.

How's the line look to you turbo peeps?

Heres the pressure side, I think I have the right fitting on it. My kit came with a 90 deg and a straight so I put the 90 on the turbo and the straight on the filter flange thing.

So my hold up for now is the oil drain line. I don't want to drill unless I know its right so if you guys can give me some feedback on how it looks to you.

Ahem, well the line looks perfect!

But then again, what the hell do I know about that?

Nothing...

You're setup looks almost identical to mine, and I thought mine came out pretty well. Looks great!

EDIT: I strongly recommend AGAINST drilling the return hole in the pan without removing it first. I removed mine and it was WELL worth the effort. Remove the motor mounts, hoist the engine up, drop the k-member a few inches (not as bad as it sounds), and the pan will come right out. (If you saw all the shavings that made it into my pan you would definitely listen to me.)

For some reference, here's some pics of my setup. Note of course that I don't have Phamspeed's kit, this is a custom kit I'm making for myself, but it is similar in this respect.

Cool Thanks for the pics for reference EightballWS6 So looks like I'll be dropping the pan...was there a lot of shavings or A LOT of shavings? Did you gob up the bit with grease, and do the same for the tap too? Dang it, that is the part that was freakin me out the most, doing the pan. I can definately believe you on the shavings as just doing the pressure side flange off the car made a ton of shavings and a mess.

Hopefully the BMR K member will help with the whole dropping of the pan deal....its got to be good for something on this long drawn out install.

Got the rest of my HTS stuff yesterday and it looks awesome.

Gary, nope not there yet
Kyle...yep that first post really took off
Pat, Heres the sizes for the drill and taps....you'll need it...
Oil Pan drill bit size 37/64
Oil Pan Tap Size 3/8-18 NPT

Pressure Side
Drill Bit- LetterR Drill bit
Tap 1/8 NPT

That'll save you some time when tracking em down.

I'll post up some more pics tomorrow.

Hi Ed
That nipple flange is on your car, right above the oil filter. You have to drill and tap it with the bits and taps I listed above.
The kit comes with the oil lines and all brass fittings. I supplied my own 90 deg elbow for the drain...other wise the drain line would sag too much and oil would drain back to the turbo instead of the pan.

I have more if you need one, no charge I bought five just in case

I didnt know if they tapped it or not, when I got my turbotech kit, they supplied one with a fitting in it alread, as did my CAS kit.

I can get those bits pretty easily I work at home depot lol

with the bmr k-member droping the pan should be a breeze, least im hoping when i change my oil pump.

also if it was me id use steel braided line for the return. just incase it gets hot, you can use the same fitting, but id want some heat protection.

Cool, thanks for the rec' smokin. I'll go search down some -10AN today....then heat shield that too. I'll be wrapping the crossover and DP with the new copper heat wrap that I ordered up from jegs...that stuff plus the coating and will be good.

when drilling on that side of the oil pan be ware of the pick up tube that resides just behind there..... if you're drilling with the pan installed that is..

Dropping the pan is never a bad idea if you're up for the extra work but deffinately not required. Up to you I guess.

Pan comes right out with the BMR but you have to lift the motor a little, it will literally fall out. Just jack up the motor high enough to put the motor mount bolts back in with the mounts above them and that will hold the motor up while you take the pan off.

I took my pan off and used a drill press to make the hole so that it was nice and straight and clean, so all the shavings fell onto the opposite side of the pan, inside the pan. But let me tell you, I can't see how ANY amount of grease would stop every single aluminum chip from entering the pan...and that was just for drilling it. Tapping was a whole different issue with regards to chips. With the pan out of the car I was also able to do a thorough cleaning of it inside and out as well as check for metal shavings and other scary crap like that.

I have the stock K-member and it wasn't that bad, so judging by what others have said, it should be a piece of cake for you with your tubular.

You're only using a 3/8" return? I decided to go with a 5/8" since it was the same size as a -10 AN line (-10 AN = 10/16" = 5/8") and the -10 was the size everyone recommended to me... I also used the 500* silicone hose, so I don't think I need to worry TOO much about it melting. But you're lucky you didn't have to buy a 5/8" NPT tap... took me forever to find one and it cost me about 20 bucks Anyways, hope I helped ya some and good luck with the rest of your install!

I'd maybe consider some form of heat sleeving for the rubber oil drain pipe, as it runs very very close to your turbo flange and manifold pipes, and that collector will probably be one of the hottest areas.
