sts and 918's

Okay I think i want to go the sts route (what I "want" power wise and passes emissions (well looks like it will). I've noticed that some people have probs with valve float. I'm looking to run 6-7 psi (FMIC, injectors, fuel pump) without methanol. Maybe in the future 7-8 with methanol. My question is: do i need to upgrade the valve springs? or is it a case-by-case basis for these sort of things?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

It seems to be a case by case thing but I guess it depends on how much boost you run. I changed them so when it comes time to hit the dyno I don't run into any problems. Better safe then sorry.

I had vavle float with 5 pounds of boost at 5500 rpm! Got some manly valve springs and titium retainers from sddc for like $200 what a good deal and the power is still climbing to redline! Picked up over 200rwp at 6000 rpm! I would put the springs in first and my car only had 21,000 miles on it mostly hightway at the time!

The 26918 Comps are great springs and the valve float thing is a "most of the time" occurance with the stockers. I would recommend getting some form of upgraded spring as well. The rule of thumb is take the size of the valve 2.0" X 2.0" X .7854 X lbs. of boost = lbs. of spring pressure effectively lost to boost behind Intake valve. On the LS1 you only have about 50 or so lbs to start with on the seat and you just lost around 25lbs. to boost if you are running 8lbs and that is just NOT going to cut it at 6000+RPM!!

Ya i got my 918's from thunder racing and it was like 130 for the springs. I had horrible valve float over 5k rpm. It looked like i had gotten off the gaas it dropped so fast. DEFINATLY a must. And the thing is that if ya dont get them by the time that they are tired you will not be npticing they aint closing correctly cause you will have been slowly gettin used to it getting slower. I'm running 7lbs of boost and no new springs and no problem, guess a case to case basis.

i am running 21 psi boost. bone stock everything............oh wait, my truck came with boost :D :jest:

springs

are the Ls6 springs, better than the stockers? for 7psi?

Slightly better but not worth the trouble. I would get the 918's I sell them for $171.00 and they work perfectly with the stock retainers.
