F/I Guys with M6's...how is your tranny holding up?
I see a lot of guys running turbo's or s/c's putting way more than 450 rhhp down. Just wondering how M6 trannies are holding up to that kind of power, there aren't really too many options for us

Mines getting a little noisy as of late.
Input shaft whine
But then again, i've thrown some serious **** at it
Also, i recommend getting a torque arm that doesn't mount to the tranny. Mine has a leaky tail shaft now. and it's coming from somewhere near the top, definately not the slip yolk seal. Thinking i got a crack somewhere.
But, it still goes into every gear just fine

Considering how much power and abuse Harlan has put through that tranny, he's doing damn good
I have personally seen LT1 t-56's hold up to 600+rwhp quite well. However the LS1 t-56 on the other hand isn't as durable. Go figure

Mines not doing so well, but that is because of a crappy rebuild prior to the turbo's. Other than having no fifth and sixth it shifts well, getting a little noisy though. I think it's time for a rebuild.
Personally I wouldn't worry much about the tranny, just get a good clutch and it should be ok. Cars with this much power are going to have consumables, so if you need to rebuild every couple of years, who cares.

Well, first off the input shaft length changed. The 98+ T-56 has a longer input shaft.
The bolt pattern on the bellhousing is different.
i'm pretty sure in 99 Tremec bought the design from Borg Warner. So they are made by tremec in mexico now.
Don't know if any of the guts changed, gear ratio's etc.
I just gotta find a rebuild manual for one. Mine is coming apart for "inspection"
then i can do this

When GM was dumb enough to let Tremec take over the works on building the T-56's, they cut a LOT of corners.
The main thing you'll notice is that Tremec syncro's can't last half as long as the Borg Warner tranny's did. This is because the syncro's in the tremec t-56's are thinner than that of a BW t-56.
I have personal friends who have powershifted their LT1's from day one, ran 400-600+ hp levels through them on slicks powershifting every gear, and go 85-90K without even needing to check out the tranny. Can ONE LS1's owner say that?? Unfortunately not
