Anyone want to help with pulley/dampner explanations for me?

You key the crank then key the stock dampner? The ATI pulley sits on top of the stock pulley/dampner, but doesn't replace it? So it's the stock piece that you cut the matching keyway into?

TIA

The ATI damper has a keyway already cut into it.
While rebuilding my motor I cut the crank and fitted a key into it as my crank showed the damper had been spinning.
It's not easy to cut a keyway by hand but I did it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
The dowel fixture would be MUCH MUCH EASIER.
It looks as if these dowels act like a key.
You would need to have your stock damper cut for a keyway first.

Much like the idea of saftey wiring. Only instead of wire you use a few dowel pins.

K. So if I want to do this..
Could/Should I drill the Crankshaft holes now while my engine is out of the car and NOT use the pins yet? Leave the stock damper alone for now? Should I bother using the pins or keying the stock damper for now? Just leave the crank drilled w/holes?

How do I know if the ATI damper Keyway will match this kit's holes? Will that be an issue when I switch to ATI?

FWIW, the machine shop doing my keyways.. they keyway will be all the way across the inside of the hub. x2 keyways, each 180* opposite each other.

The keyways are pretty shallow as to not weaken the hub. About .098" high and .193" wide. The dowel pins are 3/16" wide and protrude .093" out of the crank. Not sure what the overall pin length is. 3/8" long or so I think.
