How many people running low 10's/high 9's on M6?

I know mighty mouse is, but i think most everyone else ive seen is using a th350, th400, power glide or 4l60/80e.

How much harder is it to run low 10 second passes with m6 with a good FI setup aroun 700 rwhp?

i think you need to ask what you will need to run the number. not something subjective as "how hard is it"

tell us what you think you will need to go the number. what mods or parts will need to be on the car, then we can assess if you are on the right track or not

LSONE 09-28-2005 11:11 PM

iirc he has a 408 and a gt55, depending on your suspension and driving ability you should be there.

WS-Sick 09-29-2005 12:59 AM

On slicks and good driving it's possible but may take quite a bit of practice if you aren't a really good driver yet. Is your setup almost done now? It's been at FMS right?

99SS-T 09-29-2005 01:02 AM

If you plan on draggin alot then there is no reason not to get a auto. They can handle the power alot better, if built right, and they put it to the ground alot better through shifts. If you only go to the track a couple times a year then stick with teh stick. I dont go often adn id rather have fun rowin my own gears instead of jsut pushing the go pedal and that is all. GL

ya, my car is still at fms right now.

this will be a weekend driver/ somewhat daily driver.

i have another car that is my daily driver, but i plan on driving the t/a a lot. of coarse i dont want a lot of miles, hence the other car.

but basically i wanna be able to rip through the gears and drive it on the street.

suspension wise i have adj pan hard bar, tubular lca's, lg tubular sub frames(weld in), random tech adj. tq arm, and tubular k member.

my driving ability is decent. taking control of all this power after not driving anything faster then a 1.9 z3 is going to be a very big challenge, but ill be fine. im gonna give it a few weeks before i think ill be 100% comfortable driving it. then it will be just mastering when and how fast it spools.

When you getting it back??

smokinHawk 09-29-2005 05:29 AM

not to many have ran a 9.99 or better with a stick
i think the curent ones with sticks that are in the single digets are ofcoarse mightymouse (Dave), Intmdate (Jim from speed inc), Taner (Taner -n20 car)
to say your driving ability is desent with out backing it up with numbers is presumpious, get some seat time on your new ride and then youll know if you have desent driving abilities, driving a 6speed down the track aint the easiest task, thats why they invented autos, heck ive only done a 1.99 with nittos so i need alot of work too.
for suspension it usaully takes people a while to dial it in, it isnt easy either.
Is your torque arm a tail shaft mount or chassis mount
with that much power get a good chassis mount, something like a spoohn, UMI or equivalent. After that your next chassis mods should be shocks and springs.

It's all up to the driver. We've had a few customer's get there 700hp cars to the track and run mid 12's due to the lack of driving. They dropped 2 seconds by driving better but still lack 1 more second :)

NA$TY-TA 09-29-2005 07:43 AM

Not only is it going to be hard to do driving the car to a low 10 sec/high 9 sec pass its going to be very hard on the parts.... ie tranny...
Thats why i finally faced the music and went with an auto.........
Its still going to be alot of fun to drive......

why you gotta bring me into this...and i was only off half a second :bang:

Wicked_Hugger99 09-29-2005 09:54 AM

i hope, after some practice, to be in the low 10s at least

MIGHTYMOUSE 09-29-2005 10:09 AM

i don't know of anyone that has run a 9 with a supercharger on an ls1 m6, i dont know of anyone that has run a 9 with a twin turbo (f body) ls1 m6, and i only know of one person that has run a 9 with a single turbo ls1, m6.. yay me :D

(let me gloat a little, i just blew my shit up)

there is jim that has run a bunch of 9's with his twin turbo lt1 m6, and one guy named Jeremy i think ran a 9 with a single turbo lt1 m6.

and of course you got a few lingenfelter tt vettes thrown in there

its hard, i wish i could do it again!
i think if you made it an m6 race car and dropped the weight, went with an ignorant tire and gear combo, that it wouldn't be too big of a deal, but you have soo many of the FI crowd that are FI because they want their cake and eat it too.. so you have most all being street cars still.... with smaller tires.. some don't even run race gas i hear! how dumb is that!

Frost 09-29-2005 10:29 AM

As far as having cake....

It's a constant debate for me too but it's sooooo hard to argue about the streetability of the M6. Lemme see an auto with no lockup hit the hiway for 2+ hour trip @ 60-70MPH... We know what happens when you run a convertor that flashes into the 4ks or 5ks on the hiway @ 3K for any real amount of time, even with a cooler.

It's no wonder that real street cars are making HP enough to go 8s but get stuck in the 10s for driveablilty.

BlwnTA 09-29-2005 11:35 AM

Let me add perspective....

MY CAR...704rwhp (ATI Procharger)..M6...Street/show car for the most part. Best track time to date (just having some fun) 11.43 @ 128mph on a hot day, off idle (1.85 60') and getting out of it in 4th briefly due to ET Streets being all over the place on the big end and only having one hand on the wheel.

MY PARTNERS CAR....576 rwhp (Vortech) 4L60E...Street/Show car for the most part. Best Track time to date 10.97 @ 129 mph. Leaving off idle (1.77 60')

Both cars are heavy though. Mine's 3900 and his probably 3800.

Now...from a roll (50 mph) on the highway where I would only shift once or less (say 3rd to 4th) I can almost put 2 car lengths on him by the time we reach 100 mph.

M6 fun on the street, but the auto is the only way to go at the track unless your after a record or something.

Remember with a M6 and FI. All the power on and all then all the power off between shifts sucks at the track.

Good luck

2000 Tran Zam 09-29-2005 12:24 PM

ya,im not after any records or anything, im just curious how ill stack up with my setup.

its one thing to say you have 700 rwhp, but its another thing to say that you can only run 11's at 135 cause you suck at driving :jest:

Personally, I think a 4L80E is the best solution to a street/track high hp car. I perfer an M6 as well, but the 80 would be easier on parts and would hold 700rw EASILY with a rebuild. Parish had a stock one with a shift kit ONLY in his 4WD/5000lb/10-sec truck. Plus, Mike Brown runs 9.4's with his. :) I think you can even get a trans brake and manual valve body for them.
