Top speed challenge vid Well, Dan and I drove my Camaro 1000 miles to Maxton North Carolina to compete in Hot Rod's top speed challenge. It is a 1 mile track. It got teched for 175mph as I didn't have a full cage, window net, or parachute. Made the 125 licensing run, the 150 licensing run, and was trying for my 175 run and overshot it by quite a bit. The run was at 19lbs of boost or just under 800rwhp. (the car makes 890rwhp at 24lbs). It spun in 2nd so I short shifted it into 3rd. Once I shifted into fifth things were happening pretty fast so I just kept my eyes on the track. Ran 199.4mph on that run which got me booted out. Here's the vid. The view from outside is the 150mph licensing run which was shifted from 4th to 6th and then cruised at 150. (15psi boost) www.ls1speed.com/movies/intmd8_199.wmv |

:jest: thats awsome. |
Onyourls1- Yes it is. Wear a wig and some make-up and I might let you be Frog. |
dan can be snowman , he likes trucks! tom can be the rich guy that makes all the bets and larry will be his sidekick that hangs out with him |
BALLS THIS BIG!!!! F@#KIN Awesome vid, I couldn't imagine trying to push a car that fast:hail: Track looked a lil narrow too:eek2: J:D |
I'm green with envy here man. That's what I'm gearing up to do...maxton mile. I'm aware you're running a 327gear and I'm getting a 9" w/310 for 240mph at redline in 5th. They're going to give me the boot as well cause I have no cage, chute, or net like you. hehe I probably need a few more horses but there is time. |
Jim, what day were you there? I went Sunday being that it is only an hour or so from my place.. would have been cool to meet ya! sunday was pretty cool.. a few cars were running good, the stryker viper popped on its last run if ya had a chance to check it out. I am more impressed with your car then the viper though... seriously nice setup and very good run! Chris |
We were there saturday and sunday. Made the licensing runs on saturday, and the 199mph run on sunday. (we left around 1pm to start the 14hr drive home). That viper was bad ass, I didn't see them pop it though. |
How did the car drive at 199? When I got my SS up to 160+ it was pretty damn floaty. You done anything to increase down force? Bad ass. |
The car was rock solid. Hardly had to touch the wheel. Not really sure why, the body is completely stock. (no spoilers or underbody panels, etc.) |
Damn...must be those goofy holes lt1's have for headlights :P |
Holy god. That was hard to watch towards the end :eek2: :eek2: |
WOW-- :eek2: -----------crappy track/road..... :barf: |
Jim, that figures.. I don't remember seeing your car there but then again I slept in sunday..lol didn't make it to maxton until around 1pm or so... if ya ever come back to run it again, gimme a heads up.. I can house ya and we can make a weekend out of it.. there are quite a few cars here of the level yours is and they all belong to my closest friends..lol also.. I have a truck and a car trailer in the unfortunate event something negative happens... and my dad is a tv repairman and has a kickass set of tools. Chris |
Awesome run. Congrats. I can't imagine driving that fast. Especially getting up to that speed in a mile. You have one of the nicest LT1 cars I have ever seen. |
WOW! They didn't exactly "prep" the track did they, lol!! That was awesome Jim! What octane were you running for the day? So, who took first place and what were they driving? |
Wow 199.4 mph with a stock body. That's impressive! I can't can't wait until I can really get some power under my hood. I'm gald to see someone with such an awesome setup making use of it! Congrats! |
that was a heck of a run, I've got to agree with everyone else it looks like that track was a little lacking for room and grip. |
Holy $hit! Congrats.. thats cool as hell! |
