Im assuming its not a spec 2 your talking about, but a twin disk that they carry now?

How does it compare to the spec 5? whats the difference? diff material/design?

The mcleod was holding great and was comfortable to drive, so I'll give it another shot (especially for 300 bucks max to rebuild it).

I always had good luck with the McLeod twin disk...And I abused it at the track.

The clutch was responsible for twisting the **** out of the output shaft on my old t56...I am sure if the shaft hadn't been cryoed it would have broken.

Hell, I even ripped the tire off the rim (yes they were screwed) with this clutch.

If I ever had another 6 speed I would either be using the McLeod twin or the clutch that a lot of the high hp vette guys are using...the name slips my memory.

I just bought the spec dual disk. Nice piece. Haven't got it installed yet, maybe by the end of next week. Spec claims 1000ft/lbs torque and very streetable. Has one rigid disk and one sprung clutch. Cost was around 1100 shipped. Not too bad for a clutch thatll hold that much.

M6 is definately a more expensive route to go. Just preference really. In the world of high hp clutches, 1100 is very cheap. Exedy gets about 2k for their dual disk and 3800 for their hyper carbon triple. A tilton clutch can run as much as 5k. Add that to the cost of a built t56, it gets real pricey real quick. But I like to row the gears.

Just depends on how many passes you make on them and how much you slip them at launch. If they're properly broke in, then they last quite a while. One nice thing, if you buy the expensive set ups, the actual clutches are the only things that needs to be replaced. The pressure plate and floaters are the expensive part.

All: I agree with what you guys are saying... so before I do a built T56 and a $1000 clutch.... what does it cost for a TH400?

I got my th400 from a guy that had just gotten it back from hughes, everythign inside it was all rebuilt, pump tested, all teh cutch packs redone, deep alum. pan, plus the converter, and a driveshaft for 1600. I think the tranny new, with the rmvb and a transbrake (both of which I have) was gonna be about 1900 thru eastside. The tranny is the best of what hughes does, and I have faith that it is comparable to any top of the line th400 you could get anywhere.

Look at it like this... 1900 for the tranny, 400 for a good driveshaft, and say you spend 1500 on a good conveter, like a chance or whatever (mine is a modified hughes, we'll see how it works out) then a shifter, tranny cooler, and all that say is 500 with AN lines on it, that's 4300 bucks, and that's picking everything up new with alot of $ set aside for a converter, I think the conveter I have from hughes new is like 900.. so I think that the 1500 is alot of room to buy whatever.

THe clutches above that are beign talked about that are 1500 to 2000, I'll bet that they won't last even 1/2 as long as a converter will if the fluid is changed on a regualr baisis and you don't burn the fluid up with the transbrake, and the tranny I guarintee willl last as long or longer then a built t56 will, especially in a car that sees alot of hard launches.

My th400 setup breack down:

Rossler Th400 with brake, $2000 shipped
B&M Hammer shifter $200
Vigilante Converter $700
3.5" driveshaft out of a craftsman truck $200
Biggest tranny cooler I could find $80 15x20"

Thats about $3200

I then sold all my 6spd crap for $1200.

$3200 - $1200 = $2000

A new clutch was going to cost me about $1400 with labor, so I decided to do a TH400 FTMFW!

Then you get this

11.248@120.53mph 1.589 60ft, 4900' DA, 12psi T67, unprepped track. 8psi launch.

Not my car but my friends which is basically a clone of mine, except with real tires.

more then you will ever make...1500hp rating. Cost i dont know, i was a prototype tester, i know they have two levels higher then mine now and slowhawk put there ultimate clutch in a blown c5r vette and the clutch is supposed to hold over 2k And its just as streetable as mine. I actually asked for pressure in the peddle because it was less then a 4cyc cobalt clutch. I like some peddle, its about stock pressure now and has held well over 50+ 800+rwhp/tq runs.

I have a carbon fiber Driveshaft already... do I have to get a custom length one for the TH400?
