STS Guru's

I'm getting a set of JBA Shortys that are suppose to be stainless steel and ceramic coated for basically free. Would it be a bad idea to change out my stock 02 mainfold for these? or should I just get my stockers ported and polished.

enginjoe Nov 29, 2006 04:26 PM

From what I've seen, stick with stock. I am switching back to stock after having LTs. I don't know about PP though. If anyone has done it, I would like to see the results. I think if you had them coated, that would be good though.

JD_Z28 Nov 29, 2006 06:36 PM

Anyone else think it would be better to stay with stock manifolds or go with the JBA's (Stainless, Ceramic).

RedHardSupra Nov 29, 2006 07:08 PM

jba's are much lighter, so that's good. also, if they're coated, they might be better at preserving heat all the way to the rear turbo, so it can gain you some power. i'd go with jba's

Het JD_Z28 i have SLP LT's and with my little 382 i am doing 708HP on a mustang. So i don't know why everybody is saying stick with stock manifolds. I have my little GT-67 maxxed out, but the car is an animal!!

enginjoe Nov 29, 2006 07:26 PM

I'm stock displacement and with headers I had quite a bit of lag.

TopRPM Nov 29, 2006 07:44 PM

Ceramic Coated headers displace alot of heat, and turbos love hotter air, because it causes faster spooling.. The stock manifolds are your best bet!!!

koolaid_kid Nov 29, 2006 09:02 PM

One might also consider wrapping the exhaust. It keeps the heat to the turbo much higher.
Although I have not yet done it myself, others have reported good results doing this.

TopRPM Nov 29, 2006 09:13 PM

I have seen people gaining as much as 20-30 hp from wrapping the headers.... I would definently look into it

i wouldnt mind getting wrapped ceramic coated headers. would be amazing to my already wrapped Y-pipe. i've heard good stories about people using the stock manifolds.

JD_Z28 Nov 30, 2006 11:06 AM

Thanks for all the responses. A buddy of mine told me if I go with the JBA's that I shouldn't wrap them because it could eventually get moisture and damage to ceramic coating, is this true? Its a tuff decision because i'm not sure which of the two would benefit me the most when i'm running more boost

enginjoe Nov 30, 2006 11:26 AM

Yeah, don't wrap ceramic.

JD_Z28 Nov 30, 2006 04:27 PM

Does anyone know if the Z06 manifolds fit our car.

Jammer Nov 30, 2006 07:33 PM

I tried and if I recall correct, the Z manifold interfered with the wheel well/strut area...
