why does the gt 2-3 cam seem to make such good F.I. power when it seems so mild?

ive been looking pretty hard at a lot of threads for a cam for my new buildup and I cant believe the power people are getting on this lingenfelter grind .571/.578 .207/.220 on 118.5 cl. there are several people over 700 on a 346 with 14 psi and a d1sc!!! Is it because it probably has next to nothing for overlap? does it make a lot of power in the 3000 to 5000 range? it seems like it might not be worth sacrificing drivability to go with a huge bumpstick. how much more power could I make going to a more agressive profile? (if you have examples, id like to hear them) I will have a forged bottom end, 9.0-9.5 compression,( what do you guys like for compression?) patriot lq9 stage 2 heads, meth injection, and a d1sc with 14-16 psi.

lingenfelter probably did a good job engineering the cam

also these days its not hard to make 7-800 rwhp on a stock cam

lmt0705 01-11-2007 02:11 PM

how much more would I stand to gain going to a more aggressive cam?

cablebandit 01-11-2007 02:29 PM

i doubt enuff gain to justify the cost. Follow what KP has done with the D1sc....on a z06 cam and running well into the 9s...low 6s in the 1/8. Make sure you have whatever EPP recommends for a filter and intake hat etc

on a side note KP has went to a 224/228 cam (im not 100% certain but im pretty sure)

boost in some cases can cover up a lack of a cam and heads.... the reason cams are so important on NA motors is because they try to make the heads and cylinders create a vacuum that sucks air in...... on boosted motors the air is waiting for the slightest crack so it can jam in there... just a thought..

lmt0705 01-11-2007 02:48 PM

does anyone know what epp recommends for a filter and blower hat? how much does it cost?

Call em!! they are a sponsor and nice folks

i have the lingenfelter gt-7 cam with 208/230 on a 121LSA (crazy LSA) i havent dynoed yet but i think im the only one running it on here, and it actually makes some good power n/a!

lmt0705 01-11-2007 08:42 PM

cant wait to see dyno numbers for that!

Country Boy 01-11-2007 08:48 PM

my wittle gt2-3 does good ;)

huh, i didnt know it worked well with a turbo, i thought it just did good with a blower, always learning...

...Because the stock cam will make big power too. Most of you guys focus on peak power too much.

Check out my dyno is the dyno forum ;) I like how it carries the power and doesnt look like a mountain peak.

lmt0705 01-12-2007 06:10 AM

i really could care less about peak power for the street, the numbers Ive seen have been terriffic under the curve. do you have any recommendations? Im very open to suggestions. Id also like to have a little lope in the idle, so maybe a step up in duration and a tighter lsa is in order for me

CHRISPY 01-12-2007 07:26 AM

There are many advantages to a cam like the one listed above.

1) The lift is reasonable (valve control is hard enough under big boost, milder lift makes it easier on the springs and lifters) this will equal long life
2) Traditional split with the exhaust duration listed above helps get the charge out without pushing it past the exhaust valve or into the header tube. It allows you more leniency on the exhaust setup. (Can be a little more restrictive, allow you to run cats/quieter exhaust etc)
3) If you are turbo the lower duration (intake side) cams can actually help spooling in most cases.
4) Much easier to tune and better drivability both idle and part throttle/cruise

It is also in my car...but its still getting a turbo kit fab'd up.

Country Boy 01-12-2007 12:15 PM

I like it because it drives just like stock.
